Jeep India has issued a recall for the very popular Jeep Compass compact SUV. However, only the diesel variants of the Compass are being called back by the company. Jeep India has sent an official notice to all its authorized dealership outlets telling them to recall the diesel version of the Compass.
This recall affects only those Jeep Compass compact SUV models which have been manufactured between the time period of 18th December 2017 to 30th November 2018. This means that Jeep India is going to recall over 11,000 units of the Compass SUV.
The Compass Diesel is being to correct an emission issue. As per the company’s recall notice, some of the diesel Compass models that were manufactured during the mentioned period of time could be exceeding the regulatory threshold for Particulate Matter emissions. This issue would go unnoticed by the owners of the affected vehicles, as there no apparent ways to detect the problem by the customers. The iconic American SUV brand under FCA is planning to correct this emission issue by updating the vehicle’s PCM (Powertrain Control Module) with the latest software.
Jeep has also asked the dealers to perform this software update of the PCM first on the available inventory that is at the showrooms and also on those vehicles that come for servicing, post which they should reach out to the owners of the affected Compass Diesel models. Jeep also informed in its notice that the particular vehicles that are involved in this voluntary recall can be found out by using the VIP inquiry process. customers who have purchased the vehicle manufactured during this time. Dealerships are also asked to perform this update on vehicles coming in for service.
Jeep had also recalled Compass earlier, which involved 1,200 units of the SUV after a supplier informed the company that some passenger modules may have loose fasteners, which can potentially cause safety issues when the passenger airbag inflates.
The Jeep Compass compact SUV is the very first model from the house of Jeep to have been manufactured locally in India. Jeep’s parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) had invested heavily on its Ranjangaon factory in India to setup world-class production technology which involves autonomous technology, laser welding and hot stamping methods to enable the local production of the Compass. The Jeep Compass that launched in India in 2017, is not only manufactured in the country for the domestic car market, but also gets exported to all the right-hand drive markets across the globe.
The competitive pricing of the locally made Jeep Compass without any compromise on the qualities that the Jeep brand is famous for, ensured that the Compass received outstanding response in the Indian market, and still continues to sale great.
The Jeep Compass is available for sale in India in both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol version comes powered by a 1.4L turbocharged mill offering 160 Bhp and 250 Nm, while the diesel counterpart packs in a 2.0L Fiat Multijet motor generating 170 Bhp and 350 Nm.
Jeep India is also preparing to launch the top-end Trailhawk variant of the Compass soon to further entice the off-roading aficionados. The Jeep Compass Trailhawk is expected to be priced at around Rs. 25 lakhs.
