Kia has launched the Seltos compact SUV in the South Korean car market, which is also the home market of the carmaker. In S.Korea, prices of the Seltos start from Rs 11.31 lakh and go up to Rs 15.45 lakh. In India, however, we expect the top-end Seltos to cost higher than this since even the top-spec Hyundai Creta costs more than Rs 15.5 lakh (ex-showroom) here. The Seltos will be a more equipped car compared to the Creta.
With the launch of the Seltos in S.Korea, we now know the dimensions of the car. On the outside, the S.Korea-spec Seltos is larger than the Creta in terms of its length and width. The wheelbase has also been increased by 40mm, indicating that there may be more space inside the cabin now. It is imperative to note here that the next-gen Creta will be based on the same platform as the Seltos.
While the S.Korea-spec Seltos looks similar to the Indian model, the interior of the two cars is different. In the India-spec Seltos, the instrument cluster gets an extension on which the infotainment system is positioned. In South Korea, however, the instrument cluster is a separate freestanding unit.
Interior of India-spec Seltos
The India model also features a flat-bottom steering wheel, while the S.Korea-spec Seltos gets a simple round unit. The Indian Seltos also features more panels in silver finish whereas the one on sale in S.Korea gets more glossy black elements. Then, there’s an obvious difference between the interior colour combination. While the India-spec Seltos will come with a beige-black interior, buyers in S.Korea have an option to choose between three options -- black dashboard and black upholstery, black dashboard and plum upholstery and black-brown dashboard and black upholstery. As far as visual appeal is concerned, the S.Korea-spec Seltos looks better on the inside.

In S.Korea, the Seltos is available with a 1.6-litre, turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.6-litre diesel. While the petrol engine makes a maximum power of 177PS, the diesel engine makes 136PS. In India, the petrol and diesel engine of the Seltos will displace 1.5-litre volume, but there will be a third engine, a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol unit, that will make over 140PS of maximum power, making the Seltos the most powerful compact SUV in the country.
Bookings for the Seltos are now open in India and its launch is scheduled for 22 August 2019. Kia reports that it has already booked over 6000 Selto cars in India, so we expect the car to be on waiting once it is launched.
