Maruti Suzuki will introduce a six-seater MPV in its Nexa channel on 21 August 2019. The MPV will be based on the Ertiga, but will sport a different front design. It has been spied donning the Nexa Blue body colour, and the spy images also confirm its name -- XL6.
From the front, the XL6 looks completely different from its donor car. The overall design is such that it looks wider than the Ertiga in the spy images. It gets a redesigned front grille with less chrome ornamentation, new headlamps and restyled front bumper. The bumper also gets a bash plate to make the MPV look more rugged than the Ertiga. It also sports roof rails; these are not on offer on the Ertiga.
At the side, the XL6 gets plastic cladding and black alloy wheels. Alloys are the same as those on the Ertiga, just that the Ertiga gets them in dark grey colour. The cladding continues at the rear too, where the bumper has been redesigned. There’s a black element above the licence plate on the boot lid that differentiates it from the Ertiga. It features the same tail lamps as the Ertiga. Nexa lettering on the rear windshield and XL6 badging can be seen on the spied car.
The XL6’s interior images are not out yet, so we don’t know exactly how it looks on the inside. However, we do know that it will be a six seat MPV, and not a seven-seater, like the Ertiga. As a result, it will sport captain seats in the middle. The cabin is also expected to feature all-black colour scheme, instead of the black-beige combination that’s there on the Ertiga. Interior design is otherwise expected to remain the same.
It remains to be seen whether the XL6 will get the same powertrains as the Ertiga or not. Since Maruti Suzuki has expressed its intention of not offering a diesel engine in any of its cars in the BS6 era, it is likely that the XL6 will come with the 1.5-litre petrol engine only. The engine is available with both manual and automatic transmission options on the Ertiga, and both the transmissions might be on offer on the XL6 as well.
As far as its prices are concerned, the XL6 is likely to be offered at a slight premium over the Ertiga as it is expected to feature more equipment. The petrol Ertiga’s prices start from Rs 7.45 lakh and go up to Rs 9.96 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi).
