Czech automaker Skoda had announced about its plans to introducea 5-seater sporty GT coupé version to the global portfolio of its 7-seater flagship model – the Kodiaq SUV, back inNovember 2017. The carmaker is now likely to debut the new upcoming Kodiaq GT SUV-coupé at the 2018 Chengdu Motor show in China. Just before its expected official unveiling, the production version of the Skoda Kodiaq GT coupé has been revealed online through a set of spy pictures.
The new set of spy shots show a fully un-camouflaged vehicle which seems to be the new upcoming Skoda Kodiaq GT Coupe’s production version model. The Skoda Kodiaq GT comes with a length of 4,634 mm which makes the sporty vehicle 63 mm shorter than that of the standard model of the full-sized Kodiaq SUV.
The Skoda Kodiaq GT SUV-coupe also comes with a distinctively designed coupé-type sloping roofline that lends the vehicle a special appeal and marks it apart from the standard SUV model. The Skoda Kodiaq GT coupe model is also the first ever 4-door SUV-coupé model from the house of Skoda. The Kodiaq GT coupe will be placed above the standard Kodiaq in the Czech car maker’s global line-up, making it the new flagship model.
However, the important bit is, the new upcoming Skoda Kodiaq GT coupe might not be a global product at all, as Skoda has been persistently saying that the new Kodiaq GT will be a China specific model only, despite the rumour of it being available in many other international car markets at a later stage. Only time will tell, if the Skoda Kodiaq GT coupe will remain to be a China exclusive vehicle model or will turn to be an international hit later. For the time being it is only known that the Kodiaq GT SUV-coupe will launch first hit the car market of China, and will be initially rolled out only from the Shanghai-VW JV manufacturing facility in China.
When the under the hood mechanical bits are confirmed, the upcoming Kodiaq GT coupe will be powered by a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine that will be available in two states of tune, namely – 180 hp and 220 hp. Transmission duty will be handled by a 7 speed DCT gearbox on both the engine tune options. It is said that Skoda will be offering the all four wheel drive system option on the higher model trims of the Kodiaq GT, while the lower variants will get only two wheel drive system.
In terms of the in-cabin equipment list, the upcoming Skoda Kodiaq GT will be at par with the standard SUV version and thus, will be fully loaded with premium features. As per the spy images, the SUV-coupe also flaunts a large sunroof.
Post its Chinese launch, the new upcoming Skoda Kodiaq GT coupe will be rivaling withthe upcoming Renault Captur SUV-coupé that will also initially be launched only in the car markets of China and Russia.
Although it doesn’t seem to be a near future possibility, we would definitely like to get the Skoda Kodiaq GT in the Indian market.
