Czech automaker Skoda has big plans to expand its popularity in the highly lucrative car market of India. Apart from preparing to bring in a slew of new models, Skoda is busy strengthening and refreshing its existing Indian lineup. Skoda has quietly gone ahead listing the Superb Sportline model on its official Indian website. Skoda Auto India is clearly trying to attract more buyers by offering sportier versions of its premium sedan models. As the Skoda Octavia RS has already received good market response in India, it is expected that the Skoda Superb Sportline will also find a lot of enthusiastic potentials buyers.
Although the Skoda Superb Sportline has been listed on Skoda India’s website, the Czech car maker has not yet revealed any details on the India-spec model. The Skoda Superb Sportline is on sale in Europe and we can expect similar things for the India-spec model as well.
As is very apparent from the name, the Sportline is the performance-centric variant of the Skoda Superb. The sporty model boasts and mechanical updates as compared against the standard Superb to mark itself different. The Superb Sporline comes with sporty black coloured exterior styling elements, 18 or 19 inch alloy wheels in glossy black finish, tinted rear windows and rear windshield and of course, ‘Sportline’ badging.
The Skoda Superb Sportline variant’s cabin offers an overall sporty appeal with exclusive sports seats, leather wrapped sports steering wheel, aluminium pedals and a performance monitor feature in the infotainment unit. It also offers more added features including an electronic differential lock with improved XDS+ function and Driving Mode Select and the optional feature of Adaptive Dynamic Chassis Control. The Skoda Superb Sportline also comes with a suspension that has been lowered by 15 mm to enhance the sportiness.
Under the hood, the India-spec Skoda Superb Sportline variant is expected to get equipped by the same set of petrol and diesel mills. Superb gets powered by a 1.8L petrol mill in India with two states of tunes – 180 PS/250 Nm paired to a 7-speed DSG transmission, and 180 PS/320 Nm when mated to a 6 speed manual transmission. Skoda might even offer the sporty sedan variant equipped with the 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine that powers the Octavia RS and generates 230 PS and 350 Nm. It gets paired with a 6 speed DSG transmission. The diesel version of the Superb packs in a 2.0L TDI motor delivering 177 PS and 350 Nm coupled with a 6 speed DSG transmission.
We think that the Skoda Superb Sportline will be able to impress the new-age premium sedan buyers of India, with its luxurious and elegant appeal coupled with its sporty character. The Superb Sportline is a great combination of premium comfort and sporty performance, and this should help it to garner good sales in the Indian car market.
The Skoda Superb Sportline variant is most likely to be tad dearer than that of the standard Superb lineup in India, which has a price range of Rs. 25.59 lakhs – Rs. 32.99 lakhs (ex-showroom across India). We sure hope that the Superb Sportline comes with some more goodies in India to make things really enticing.
