Maruti Suzuki Achieved Record Rail Dispatch In CY 2025 (Press Release) | V3Cars
Maruti Suzuki achieved their highest-ever rail-based vehicle dispatch in calendar year 2025, marking a key milestone in their logistics operations. The company increased the share of rail transport in outbound logistics as part of their sustainability-focused initiatives. The record performance reflected a continued shift towards greener transportation modes.
Here’s what Maruti Suzuki India Limited have to say about the record rail dispatch achievement:
Maruti Suzuki India Limited has achieved a record rail dispatch of over 5.85 lakh vehicles in calendar year 2025, marking a growth of 18 percent over CY 2024. This milestone reflects a significant advancement in the company’s green logistics strategy, with the share of rail-based dispatches rising sharply from 5.1 percent in 2016 to approximately 26 percent in 2025. The increased use of rail transport has contributed to a substantial reduction in carbon emissions, lower fuel consumption, reduced dependence on oil imports, and easing of road congestion.
Rail-based vehicle dispatch volumes have grown more than 7.5 times over the past decade, increasing from nearly 77,000 units in 2016 to over 5.85 lakh units in 2025. As a result of this shift, Maruti Suzuki avoided an estimated 87,904 metric tonnes of CO2e emissions and saved more than 687 lakh litres of fuel during the year.
Commenting on the achievement, Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said:
“2025 marked the company’s highest-ever rail dispatch volume. He highlighted two key developments during the year: the inauguration of India’s largest automobile in-plant railway siding at the Manesar facility, and the first-ever dispatch of vehicles by rail to the Kashmir Valley through the world’s highest railway arch bridge over the Chenab river by an automobile manufacturer. He added that the company’s mid-term objective is to increase rail-based vehicle dispatches to 35 percent by FY 2030–31, supporting India’s net-zero target for 2070.”
Mr. Takeuchi further noted that Maruti Suzuki has adopted a comprehensive circular mobility approach to sustainability, aimed at reducing carbon footprint across the entire vehicle lifecycle, from design and manufacturing to logistics and end-of-life vehicle management.
Maruti Suzuki has been a pioneer in promoting railways as a sustainable mode of vehicle transportation. It became the first automobile manufacturer to obtain an Automobile Freight Train Operator license in 2013. Since FY 2014–15, the company has transported over 28 lakh vehicles by rail from 22 dispatch points, servicing more than 600 cities across India through a hub-and-spoke model. Currently, it operates over 45 flexi-deck rakes, each capable of carrying around 260 vehicles per trip.
In calendar year 2025, rail dispatches from Maruti Suzuki’s in-plant railway sidings at its Gujarat and Manesar facilities accounted for 53 percent of the company’s total rail dispatch volumes, further underlining the growing role of rail transport in its outbound logistics network.
