What Are The Pros And Cons Of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza Petrol?

The pros or advantages of Vitara Brezza petrol are:

  • Widest service network

While the LXI variant itself looks pretty well equipped, it may seem unnecessary to upgrade to a higher variant - at least for the budget-conscious buyer. But, if you find this adequate and don’t want to stretch your budget, then the Brezza petrol LXI is a satisfactory entry point for this car.

The VXI variant gets cosmetic and functional features like LED headlamps and auto AC, push-button start/stop and steering-mounted controls, but the asking price is a bit more than it should be. If you’re buying it with the automatic transmission, then this is the most affordable option for you. Regardless of which transmission you’re considering, we’d suggest you either get yourself the base LXI variant and save some cash or go for the ZXI variant and get better value for money.

Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza Petrol VXI vs ZXI Variant

The price difference between the Vitara Brezza VXI and ZXI variant is Rs. 75,000 and costs Rs. 9.1 lakh with the manual and Rs. 10.50 lakh with the automatic transmission (ex-showroom). The ZXI variant adds the following features to the mix:

  • 7-Inch Touchscreen Infotainment
  • Cruise Control
  • Rear Center Armrest w/ Cup Holder
  • Black Alloy Wheels
  • Apple CarPlay, Android Auto
  • Height-adjustable Driver Seat
  • 60:40 Split Rear Sea

Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza Petrol ZXI vs ZXI Plus Variant

The price difference between the Vitara Brezza ZXI and ZXI Plus variant is Rs. 65,000 and costs Rs. 9.75 lakh with the manual and Rs. 11.15 lakh with the automatic transmission (ex-showroom).

The notable additional features of the Brezza ZXI Plus variant are:

  • LED Front Fog Lamps
  • Automatic Headlamps
  • Rain-sensing Wipers
  • Machined Alloy Wheels
  • Rear Parking Camera
  • Sliding Front Centre Armrest With Storage
  • Auto Fold ORVMs
  • Leather Wrapped Steering Wheel
  • Auto-Dimming IRVM
  • Cooled Upper Glove Box
  • Height-adjustable Front Seatbelts
  • Body + Roof Coloured ORVM
  • 2 Tweeters
  • Dual-tone Exterior Colour Option

The ZXI Plus variant gets mostly good-to-have features and barely any must-have features. It’s also expensive for what it’s offering. So, we wouldn’t recommend this variant to most buyers. You should instead go with the ZXI variant, which offers much better value for money and a better mix of must-have and good-to-have features.

Which Variant Of The 2020 Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza Petrol Should You Buy?

For the manual transmission, the LXI variant is a fantastic starting point and priced well too. But what impresses us the most about this variant is that it covers major must-have features unlike some other small SUVs, which offer a base variant with barely any features. The Brezza LXI can go toe-to-toe with their second most affordable variant on the feature and value front.

In comparison, the VXI variant seems overpriced and we’d suggest you skip this variant for the ZXI trim, which offers better value for money. If LXI is too basic for you, then ZXI will suit your needs better. The ZXI Plus variant is not only a worse VFM variant than the ZXI and it also doesn’t get enough must-have features to warrant an upgrade. We’d suggest you stick with the ZXI.

For buyers interested in the automatic transmission, the Brezza VXI is the most affordable option. If you can’t stretch your budget further, then this variant is alright. However, if you don’t mind jumping the Rs. 10 lakh barrier, then the ZXI will offer better value for money. It’s worth noting that the ZXI variant may cost significantly more on-road in many states due to higher taxes on cars costing more than Rs. 10 lakh. If the on-road price difference between the VXI and ZXI automatic stays below Rs. 1.0 lakh, we’d suggest you go for the ZXI variant. Just like the manual transmission variants, we’d advise against buying the ZXI Plus variant.

What Are The Engine Specifications Of The 2020 Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza Petrol?

The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza started its life as a diesel-only model and is now available with just a petrol engine. Its 1.5L petrol engine doesn’t have class-leading specs like those of the turbo petrol engine but it’s much better than the Sonet/Venue 1.2 and WRV, which churn out double-digit horsepower figures. The Brezza’s torque-to-weight ratio of 122Nm/tonne is nowhere near the 150Nm/t mark like the Venue and XUV300 but it’s also far better than SUVs with a smaller, non-turbo petrol engine.

While some cars have moved on to 6-speed manual transmissions, the Brezza is still stuck with a 5-speed shifter. It gets worse with the automatic. Newer cars like the Venue and Sonet use a modern 7-speed DCT automatic. The Brezza, on the other hand, still uses a conventional torque converter automatic like the EcoSport. That’s not the bad news here. What hurts it big time is the ratios as it’s a 4-speed gearbox and in an age where carmakers are offering at least 6 ratios with an automatic.

However, there’s one area where the Vitara Brezza petrol automatic shines brighter than others - mileage. The Brezza automatic delivers ~1.75kmpl better than the Brezza manual and has a class-leading mileage figure of 18.76kmpl despite using a gas-guzzling torque-converter automatic transmission. Part of this magic comes from the inclusion of hybrid technology, which is only available with automatic transmission. Therefore, the Brezza MT delivers a respectable-but-not-impressive 17.03kmpl. This is also one of the reasons why the Brezza petrol automatic is Rs. 1.4 lakh more expensive than the manual when Rs. 1.0 lakh is the norm. Its higher mileage figure saves you on fuel cost and pays you back about Rs. 22,000 in 50,000km and Rs. 30,000 in 70,000km. Moreover, the Brezza automatic also gets the hill-start safety feature.
