German luxury automaker BMW has silently launched the X1 sDrive20d M Sport version in India priced at Rs 41.50 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). With this new addition, now BMW has four versions of the X1 in India. Also, the X1 sDrive20d now comes with the M Sport package, which was earlier optional only for the xDrive trim.
Under the hood, the newly launched BMW X1 sDrive20d M Sport version gets the 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that can churn out maximum power of 190 bhp and peak torque of 400 Nm. The engine comes coupled to 8-Speed automatic transmission and is capable of doing 0-100 kmph in just 7.6 seconds. However, the sDrive does not get BMW's all-wheel-drive (AWD) system which is available on the xDrive20d M Sport.
In terms of looks and design, the premium vehicle offers the M Aerodynamic package with front apron, side skirts, wheel arch trims, cladding in body color and rear apron with diffuser inserts in dark shadow metallic. The signature kidney grille with 16 exclusively designed slats with black high-gloss fronts and the M logo on the front fender as well as the exclusive M logo on the car key add to the styling of the new X1 sDrive20d M Sport. The new body kit on the newly launched X1 is also complimented with the M logo which can be seen all over the X1 including the door sills. The luxurious vehicle runs on the 18-inch M light alloy wheels and offers three exterior color options- Estoril blue, Mineral White and Sapphire Black.
Moving towards the interior, the newest member of the BMW X1 family gets the dual-zone climate control, electrically adjustable front sports seats, ambient lighting, digital instrument cluster, auto-dimming mirrors and rear parking sensors with a camera, all of these carried over from the other X1 siblings. It also gets a 40:60 split, which is the maximum in the premium compact SUV segment in order to create more space inside. However, the X1 sDrive20d M Sport doesn't get the basic features like the Heads-Up Display (HUD) and the 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment from the other versions, but instead gets the 6.6-inch unit with smartphone integration. The X1 comes with a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with iDrive, Navigation, BMW Apps and Apple CarPlay connectivity as standard and one can expect the same set of features on the M-Sport trim as well. What is more surprising than replacing the 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment with the 6.6-inch unit, is that why in the first place did the German automaker replaced it when the same 8.8 unit is available with the xDrive20d M Sport variant.
Apart from the new X1 sDrive20d M Sport, BMW also retails the X1 sDrive20d Expedition, X1 sDrive20d xLine and the X1 xDrive20d M Sport which is available for Rs 34.50 lakh, Rs 38.50 lakh and Rs 44.50 lakh, respectively. The new BMW X1 sDrive20d M Sport will be positioned below the X1 xDrive20d M Sport and above the other two variants. In India, the newly launched BMW X1 sDrive20d M Sport takes on the likes of the new Volvo XC40, Mercedes-Benz GLA and the Audi Q3.
