2026 Punch Turbo Petrol Teased; Tata’s Small SUV To Finally Get More Power | V3Cars

Tata Motors have released yet another teaser for the 2026 Punch facelift. This time around, Tata have teased a turbo petrol engine option for the 2026 Punch SUV. This marks the first time the Punch will be offered with a turbo petrol engine, addressing one of the biggest complaints owners and prospective buyers had with the outgoing model – the lack of outright performance from its normal petrol motor.

Since its launch, the Punch was appreciated for its solid build, high ground clearance and safety credentials, but the 1.2L normal petrol engine was often criticised for feeling underpowered, especially on highways or with a full load of passengers. With the addition of a turbo petrol option, Tata appears to be directly responding to this feedback.

The latest teaser confirms the presence of an ‘iTurbo’ badge along with a 6-speed manual gearbox, signalling a significant step up from the existing normal petrol engine and 5-speed setup. While Tata have not yet disclosed exact specifications, the turbo petrol engine is expected to be borrowed from the now discontinued Altroz Racer. This engine produces 120PS of power and 170Nm of torque, figures that would dramatically improve the Punch’s performance and drivability if carried over in a similar state of tune. For reference, the outgoing Punch normal petrol only produces 88PS of power and 115Nm of torque.

Importantly, Tata is likely to retain the normal petrol engine alongside the new turbo option. This dual engine strategy will allow the Punch to continue appealing to value-focused buyers while offering performance-oriented customers a more powerful alternative. The normal petrol engine is expected to remain available with manual and AMT gearboxes, while the turbo petrol is likely to be reserved for higher variants.

2026 Tata Punch New Features Teased

Beyond the engine upgrade, the teaser has hinted at several feature enhancements for the 2026 Punch. These include a fully digital instrument cluster, a new 10,25-inch infotainment system, a 360-degree camera system and premium additions such as automatic climate control and front seats with extendable underthigh support like in the new Sierra. Together, these changes suggest that the Punch facelift will be positioned as a more upmarket and capable offering rather than a simple cosmetic update.
