It is now a known fact that the fully off-road ready Jeep Compass Trailhawk variant will launch in India pretty soon. Jeep wishes to make the most of the massive success of the Compass in the Indian car market with the Trailhawk top-end trim of the SUV which is not yet available for sale in the domestic car market of India. However, it is manufactured locally for the right-hand drive international markets. In fact all Jeep models have a Trail Rated or Trailhawk version, which is meant to offer hard-core off-roading ability, which Jeep is famous for. The Trailhawk versions get endowed with additional off-road centric tech, raised ground clearance, low-range 4x4 transmission, added skid plates and more.
The Jeep Compass Trailhawk comes equipped with the company’s Active Drive Low 4x4 system, a rear locking differential, hill descent control and a ‘Rock’ drive mode added to the Selec-Terrain system. It has a higher ground clearance of 20 mm than the regular Compass, while its front and rear bumper changes offer it enhanced approach and departure angles. The Compass Trailhawk also comes with added skid plates for better underbody protection, all-season tyres and all-weather floor mats and it also signature red recovery hooks, a black matt bonnet decal, differently designed alloy wheels and off course the Trailhawk and Trail Rated logos.
On the inside, the Jeeo Compass Trailhawk comes with some additional features and some mild changes. These include Trailhawk logo embroidered seats, sporty red accents all over the cabin and a larger 8.4 inch touchscreen system. Although the exact features list for the India-spec model are not yet known, the variant will certainly get additional buttons on the AWD selector for 4WD low, hill descent and Rock mode. The rest of it is expected to remain mostly the same.
The Trailhawk version is certainly meant for the hardcore off-road adventurers and offers everything that is sufficient to quench your adventure thirst. However, the Compass Trailhawk is certainly not an off-road only vehicle and is very much drivable on the city roads in crazy traffic conditions. The Compass’ compact size is a boon for the urban buyers who would love to drive the Compass Trailhawk on a daily basis within the city limits, while during weekends hit the dusty rough roads for adventure. Thus, the Trailhawk is not overly done with too much butch appeal and other exterior equipments to make it look like always safari ready. Thus, the Compass Trailhawk is a versatile SUV. Moreover, it rides and handles really good like regular Compass and its increased ground clearance didn’t make it odd. It offers great performance, stability and dependable drive both on-road and off-road. On the downside, it has slight body-roll but not that noticeable, and its gearbox is not that sporty. When off-road capabilities are concerned, the Compass Trailhawk variant is simply excellent and is far better than other comparable SUVs and even its own regular avatar.
Jeep India has not yet revealed any launch date for the Compass Trailhawk, but it is likely to happen within this year. The top-end Compass variant is expected to be tagged at around Rs. 24 lakhs. The Jeep Compass Trailhawk will be the only off-road centric model in its own segment and that should draw buyers aplenty.
