In this April 2023 car sales analysis article, we’ll look at the YoY and MoM change in sales figures of all sedans in India. Where applicable, we’ll also include our observations based on the sales data and possible reasons behind a massive increase or drop in sales. Lastly, the table with monthly sales of all sedans for the last 6 months will give you an idea about their 6-month sales trend.
Sedans April 2023 Car Sales - YoY Change
- The Dzire maintained its top spot among sedan sales in April 2023, but reported a drop of 5.32% in YoY comparison
- It looks like even in the foreseeable future, the Dzire will remain the only sedan to achieve a 5-figure monthly sales figure as its sales in April is roughly double of the next best-selling car in the category, the Xcent/Aura pair
- Among the sedans, the Verna witnessed a 412.29% YoY gain, making it the top gainer
- The other YoY gainers in the sedan category were Maruti Ciaz with a 75.65% growth and the Skoda Superb with a 63.51% growth
- Amongst the losers, Skoda Slavia was the top loser amongst the high-volume cars in the category with a 34.76% YoY decline in sales numbers
- Amongst the other mass market losers in the category, Amaze was the next top loser with a 24% decline in sales, followed by Tigor and City with around 17% YoY drop in numbers in April 2023
- Volkswagen Vento, Mahindra E-Verito and Skoda Octavia was discontinued over the past year

Sedan April 2023 Car Sales - MoM Change
- Hyundai Xcent/Aura pair was the top gainer in April MoM comparison, with a growth of nearly 35%
- The pair from Hyundai was followed by Tigor with 16.60% growth
- Talking about the MoM losers in April, City topped the chart with 28.70% decline, Dzire with a 24.35% decline was in second spot
- Ciaz sales more than tripled, from 300 in March to 1,017 in April
