Hatchbacks Segment August 2023 Car Sales - YoY Change
- In terms of sales, the B1-hatcback segment was the best-selling segment in the Indian market. 53,373 out of 1,05,453 hatchbacks were B1-segment cars, which makes up to about 50.61% of the total sales of the hatchbacks in the month of August of 2023.
- In the year 2022, B1-hatchback made for about 45% of the total hatchbacks sold in India.
- The Swift was the best performing hatchback in August 2023 YoY comparison, with a 65.44% rise in dispatches as compared to August 2022.
- The Altroz was the second best performing car in the category, with a 57.51% YoY growth in August 2023.
- Altroz was followed by the Tiago hatchback from Tata with a 31.27% YoY growth in August 2023 compared to August 2022.
- The S-Presso from Maruti was the biggest loser, with around 66.48% decline in sales. The Ignis was the second biggest loser with a 58.70% decline in dispatches in the August YoY comparison.
- The i20 and the Alto/K10 pair also reported a YoY decline of around 35.22% and 33.26% in August, respectively.
- The cars that were discontinued are:
- Honda Jazz (Discontinued in 2023)
- Hyundai Santro (Discontinued in 2022)
- Volkswagen Polo (Discontinued in 2022)
Hatchback Segment August 2023 Car Sales - MoM Change
- The Swift claimed the top spot, with about 18,653 units sold in the month of August.
- Most cars in the category reported an MoM growth in August. The exceptions were:
- Glanza with 40.19% drop
- Ignis with 26.37% drop
- I20 with 2.10%
- Maruti Celerio was the top gainer for the August comparison with a 39.58% MoM growth in August over July..
- The Glanza emerged as the top MoM loser in the month of August with a 40.19% drop in dispatches in August compared to July.
