Confirmed: New Toyota Camry Hybrid Launch On January 18, 2019
Japanese automaker Toyota is all set to launch the new Camry Hybrid on 18th January 2019 in the Indian market. The manufacturer is bringing the next- gen Camry Hybrid within a year of launch of the 2018 Camry Hybrid in India. When launched, it will be the eighth generation Camry to go on sale. The eighth gen Camry Hybrid has already been on sale in the global markets for a while and the Indian customers will get the one similar to the Thai- spec model in the country.
Based on Toyota’s new global architecture, GA-K – the same one that also underpins the Lexus ES sedan, the upcoming Camry Hybrid will only be launched in the hybrid form and not with the only petrol engine initially. Toyota has already revealed the 2019 Camry Hybrid on its Indian website by calling it “The All New Camry Hybrid Electric Vehicle 2019”, confirming about only the hybrid version making its way to India.
Under the hood, like the outgoing model, the next- gen Camry Hybrid will also sport the same 2.5- litre, four- cylinder petrol unit capable of making 176 hp and 221 Nm of maximum torque. The hybrid will get a 118 hp electric motor that runs in jointly with the petrol mill, bringing the combined output to an electronically limited 208 hp. In the form of Toyota Hybrid System II, the newer generation of Toyota’s Hybrid technology will feature on this sedan. The new system is little lighter and see the battery unit moving from the trunk to the floor under the rear seat. The engine will come mated to an eight- speed gearbox for the standard version; while on the other hand, the hybrid powertrain will come mated to a CVT with paddle shifters.
Measuring 4850 mm in length, 1825 mm in width and 1480 mm in height, the new Camry is 35 mm longer and 15 mm wider than its predecessor. It also has a 50 mm longer wheelbase at 2825 mm. the international Camry Hybrid features nine airbags, rear cross- traffic alert, lane departure alert, traction control, ABS with EBD, blind spot monitoring system, pre- collision system, hill launch assist and radar-based cruise control as well as automatic LED headlamps, LED tail lamps, LED daytime running lamps (DRLs), a wireless mobile charging pad, a head- up display, eight- way adjustable and ventilated front seats, a three- zone climate control, reclining rear seats and a nine- speaker JBL sound system. We can expect all the features from the international model to be offered in the Indian version as well except for the radar- based cruise control system.;
Currently, the Toyota Camry Hybrid is priced at Rs 29.75 lakhs (ex- showroom, Delhi) and the next- gen model is likely to be priced Rs 50,000 to 60,000 over the current version. Because of the Hybrid's efficiency and the traditional Camry trait of good quality, the Camry has been a strong seller in this segment. Like the outgoing model, the 2019 Toyota Camry Hybrid will continue to compete with the likes of the Honda Accord Hybrid and the Skoda Superb.
