In this December 2023 car sales analysis article, we’ll look at the YoY and MoM change in sales figures of all hatchbacks in India. Where applicable, we’ll also include our observations based on the sales data and possible reasons behind a massive increase or drop in sales. Lastly, the table with monthly sales of all hatchbacks for the last 6 months will give you an idea about their 6-month sales trend.

- MG Comet EV (A - Hatch): The MG Comet EV stands out as the top gainer with impressive Year-on-Year (YoY) growth. It recorded 791 units in December 2023, showcasing a strong entry into the market or growing demand for electric vehicles.

- Maruti Nexa Ignis (B1 - Hatch): The Maruti Nexa Ignis reported a significant YoY decline of -92.52%, with sales dropping from 5,241 units in December 2022 to 392 units in December 2023. This substantial decrease may indicate challenges faced by the model in terms of market competitiveness or changing consumer preferences.
- Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 (A - Hatch): The Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 witnessed a substantial YoY decline of -71.13%, with sales decreasing from 8,648 units in December 2022 to 2,497 units in December 2023. The decline could be influenced by factors such as increased competition or shifts in customer demand within the hatchback segment.
- Renault Kwid (A - Hatch): The Renault Kwid reported a notable YoY decrease of -74.99%, with sales dropping from 1,827 units in December 2022 to 457 units in December 2023. The significant decline suggests challenges or changes in market dynamics affecting the model's performance.
- Maruti Suzuki Celerio (A - Hatch): The Maruti Suzuki Celerio experienced a considerable YoY decline of -77.34%, with sales declining from 1,090 units in December 2022 to 247 units in December 2023. The sharp decrease could be attributed to various factors, including competition, customer preferences, or market conditions.
- Maruti Nexa Baleno (B2 - Hatch): The Maruti Nexa Baleno reported a substantial YoY decline of -36.99%, with sales decreasing from 16,932 units in December 2022 to 10,669 units in December 2023. While still a popular model, the decline indicates increased competition or shifts in the hatchback market.

- Toyota Glanza (B2 - Hatch): The Toyota Glanza showed a MoM growth of 3.49%, with sales rising from 3,950 units in November 2023 to 4,088 units in December 2023. This moderate increase could be attributed to various factors, including marketing strategies or customer preferences.

- Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 (A - Hatch): The Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 stands out as the top loser in MoM comparisons, experiencing a significant decline of -69.08%. Sales dropped from 8,076 units in November 2023 to 2,497 units in December 2023, signalling a substantial decrease in demand for this model during the period.
- Maruti Nexa Ignis (B1 - Hatch): The Maruti Nexa Ignis reported a substantial MoM decline of -76.39%, with sales decreasing from 1,660 units in November 2023 to 392 units in December 2023. This sharp decline may indicate challenges or changing market dynamics for the Ignis model.
- Maruti Suzuki Celerio (A - Hatch): The Maruti Suzuki Celerio witnessed a significant MoM decline of -88.85%, with sales dropping from 2,215 units in November 2023 to 247 units in December 2023. The steep decrease could be attributed to various factors, including competition or shifts in customer preferences.
- Hyundai Ioniq 5 (C2 - Hatch): The Hyundai Ioniq 5 reported a MoM decline of -15.63%, with sales decreasing from 96 units in November 2023 to 81 units in December 2023. While not as pronounced as other declines, it still suggests a slight dip in demand for this specific hatchback model.
