Celebrated American SUV brand Jeep recently introduced the facelift model of its entry-level model - the Renegade SUV. Jeep has also gone ahead and revealed the details of the Renegade facelift more recently. Now, the Renegade has been a high anticipated launch in India for quite some time now, and it has been testing in our market. It is said that the Jeep Renegade will be hitting the Indian market in late 2018 or early 2019, and when it does, we expect to get the new facelift model. So, here are the details of the India-bound refreshed Jeep Renegade compact SUV.
The most important update of the new Jeep Renegade facelift model is the new MultiAir III turbocharged petrol mills. The updated new Renegade will be the first model in the entire portfolio of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) to get equipped with the new downsized turbocharged petrol engine range. There will the options of a 1.0L 3-cylinder engine and a 1.3L 4-cylinder unit from the new MultiAir III family.
The smaller 1.0L mill can generate 120 PS of power and 190 Nm of torque, and is paired to a 6 speed manual transmission. The 1.3L unit is offered in two states of tune – 150 PS/270 Nm with a 7 speed dual-clutch transmission, and 180 PS/270 Nm with a 9 speed automatic gearbox and AWD system. These new MultiAir III petrol engines will also introduced in other FCA models later this year.
It is thought that the new 1.3L engine will be eventually replacing the relatively less powerful 1.4L MultiAir II engine on the Compass that offers 163 PS and 250 Nm. The new MultiAir III petrol engines could also be utilized by the company in hybrid powertrains. It is already known that FCA plans to bring out the hybrid version of the Compass when it gets its mid-life refresh. These new engines are expected to come to India on the Renegade, updated Compass and the upcoming India-specific sub-4 meter Jeep SUV.
On the other hand, the diesel version of the updated new Jeep Renegade will carry forward the same 1.6L diesel motor offering 120 PS, and the 2.0L unit offering 140 PS/170 PS. These 1,6L MultiJet II diesel motor gets paired with a 6 speed manual and a 7 speed dual clutch transmission option. On the other hand, the 2.0L MultiJet II unit gets a 6 speed manual or a 9 speed automatic transmission option.
The top-end Renegade Trailhawk variant will get powered only by the 2.0L diesel coupled with the same 9 speed automatic transmission. The 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol and the 2.4L petrol engine options that were available earlier have been discontinued on the facelift model.
The updated 2019 updated Jeep Renegade facelift comes with a handful of other updates including new LED headlamps and fog lamps. On the inside there are nice updates as well, such as the latest Uconnect infotainment system with 5-, 7- and 8.4-inch touchscreen display options. The lager two touchscreen options come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.
When launched in India, the Jeep Renegade will be fighting with the likes of the Hyundai Creta, upcoming new-gen Renault Duster, Renault Captur and expected Nissan Kicks.
