Ford launched the EcoSport back in 2013 and the SUV received a facelift in 2017. Now, the carmaker is gearing up to give the sub-4m SUV yet another facelift. The updated SUV was spied testing recently.
From what is visible in the spy shots, the grille has grown in size and features a mesh pattern instead of the horizontal slats seen on the current car. It also gets mildly updated headlamps and new L-shaped DRLs which are now placed around the redesigned fog lamp housing instead of being integrated into the headlamps. The changes on the facelifted EcoSport seem limited to the front end as the side and rear profile remain unchanged save for a new set of alloys.
The test mule also featured a tailgate-mounted spare wheel like the current model. Earlier this year, Ford launched the EcoSport SE which was offered without a spare wheel, like the US-spec EcoSport. The spy shots do not reveal the interior of the updated SUV but expect it to feature some minor updates.
Ford might also take this opportunity to introduce the EcoSport Active in India which debuted in Europe in November 2020. Compared to the standard model, it looked more rugged with body cladded wheel arches and a minor suspension lift.
Under the hood, things are likely to remain unchanged. It is expected to continue forward with the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (122PS/149Nm) and a 1.5-litre diesel engine (100PS/215Nm). Both the engines are offered with a 5-speed MT with an option of 6-speed AT with the petrol engine.
The EcoSport is equipped with features like an electric sunroof, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, auto bi-xenon headlamps, auto AC, parking camera, paddle shifters, height-adjustable driver’s seat, push-button start, cruise control, auto-dimming IRVM, up to 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, electronic stability control, traction control, hill launch assist and tyre pressure monitoring system. We expect Ford to introduce some new features like LED headlamps, wireless charging, ventilated front seats, on the EcoSport to help it compete with its more modern rivals.
