Hyundai have confirmed that the Bayon CNG will launch in India in January 2027. The upcoming CNG version of Hyundai’s new C-segment SUV is expected to use the petrol model’s 1.5L non-turbo petrol engine, albeit with lower power and torque outputs. It will also feature an underbody CNG tank to preserve boot space.

The Hyundai Bayon CNG is expected to use the same 1.5L, 4-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine as the standard model, with a revised output for CNG operation. For reference, the Bayon non-turbo petrol engine produces 115PS of power and 144Nm of torque.
A 6-speed manual transmission is likely to be the primary gearbox option for the CNG version. However, Hyundai have not confirmed whether the Bayon CNG will also be available with a CVT automatic transmission.
If launched as expected, the Bayon CNG will become Hyundai India’s largest model to offer a factory-fitted CNG powertrain.
The Bayon CNG is likely to feature an underbody CNG tank, similar to the setup used in the CNG versions of the Maruti Suzuki Victoris. This arrangement could help preserve the petrol version’s 505L boot space by avoiding the need to place a conventional CNG cylinder inside the luggage compartment.
Hyundai have not announced which variants of the Bayon will get the CNG powertrain. The company could offer CNG in select lower- and mid-spec variants.
The 2026 Bayon non-turbo petrol range starts at Rs. 10 lakh (ex-showroom). The CNG versions are expected to command a premium over their petrol counterparts.
Once launched, the Hyundai Bayon CNG will compete with factory-fitted CNG versions of the Maruti Suzuki Victoris and Grand Vitara, along with the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.
The Bayon CNG’s appeal will depend on its final pricing, variant-wise features, mileage and how effectively Hyundai package the CNG tank without compromising luggage space.
