The first-ever Kia EV Day was held recently and apart from the EV6 crossover and EV9 SUV that are already on sale in various global markets, the brand also showcased the upcoming EV5 electric SUV alongside 2 concepts – the EV3 and EV5. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at the Kia EV3 and whether this could be Kia's answer to the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV and Tata Harrier EV.

Kia EV3 SUV Headed To India?

Early this year, Kia announced they were considering launching an India-centric EV manufactured at their Anantapur plant by 2025. Now, the company has revealed the EV3 concept SUV which looks similar in proportion to the Kia Seltos. While the EV3 is currently just a concept SUV, it previews what we could expect from the upcoming Kia EV manufactured in India.

Up front, the EV3 concept looks quite bold with its upright bonnet and Seltos-like lighting arrangement. Around the side, the EV3 features black cladding on the doors and the fenders, giving it a rugged SUV appeal. The A- and B-pillars get a blacked-out treatment for a floating roof effect, while the chunky C-pillar is broken up by a black trim. The concept SUV also features aero wheel covers that give the EV3 a futuristic air. At the rear, the EV3 gets a connected LED tail lamp setup with sharper graphics than what’s on offer in Kia cars currently. A roof-mounted spoiler and KIA lettering on the tailgate are the other highlights at the rear. Overall, the design gives us the impression that the EV3 could very well become the Seltos EV.

While the exterior of the EV3 looks close to production, the interior is very much a concept. However, there are some familiar bits, like the dual digital displays for the infotainment and instrumentation like in the Seltos. Other highlights include a 2-spoke steering wheel, a flat floor, storage boxes mounted on the doors, etc.

Kia have not revealed any powertrain details for the EV3. However, we can expect it to offer features like vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), vehicle-to-load (V2L) charging like the EV6 sold in India. The production-spec Ev3 could offer a range of up to 500km and support DC fast charging. When launched, the India-spec EV3 will take on the electrified versions of the Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki eVX.
