Land Rover Defender Gets New Petrol & Diesel Engines | V3Cars

Land Rover launched the new Defender in India in October 2020. At the launch, the SUV was available with a single 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine only. Now, the carmaker has introduced two new engine options on the Defender lineup: D300 and P400.

The Defender D300 gets a 3.0-litre 6-cylinder unit that makes 300PS and 650Nm mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. This engine is offered with both 90 (3-door) and 110 (5-door) versions of the Defender and is available in four variants: SE, HSE, X-Dynamic HSE and X.

The Defender P400, on the other hand, gets a 3.0-litre 6-cylinder turbo petrol engine that makes 400PS and 550Nm paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. It makes 100PS and 150Nm more than the Defender P300 which gets a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine. This engine is also offered with both 90 and 110 versions of the Defender. However, while the Defender 90 gets this engine in five variants: SE, HSE, X-Dynamic SE, X-Dynamic HSE, First Edition, the Defender 110 offers this engine in four variants: SE, HSE, X-Dynamic SE and First Edition.

Along with the introduction of two new engines, Land Rover has expanded the variant lineup of the P300 Defender 90 and Defender 110. Earlier both the versions of the P300 Defender was available in four variants: Base, S, SE, HSE and First Edition. Now, Land Rover has introduced X-Dynamic S and X-Dynamic SE variants on the Defender 90, the Defender 110 gets three additional variants in the form of X-Dynamic S, X-Dynamic SE, X-Dynamic HSE. In terms of features, the X-Dynamic variants are similar to the standard S, SE and HSE variants save for some cosmetic updates. 

Some features offered on the Defender include 14-way electrically adjustable front seats with cooling, digital instrument cluster, up to 3-zone AC, Matrix LED headlamps, auto-dimming ORVMs, electrically adjustable heated steering wheel, 360-degree camera, air suspensions (standard on Defender 110), air quality sensor, Meridian sound system, driver condition monitor and auto-dimming IRVM with ClearSight camera.

Safety features on offer include 6 airbags, 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, traction control, hill launch assist, electronic stability control, hill descent control, tyre pressure monitor and front and rear parking sensors. 

Meanwhile, Land Rover has also started accepting bookings for the plug-in hybrid variant of the Defender. Christened the P400e, it will be offered with the Defender 110 only.
