The upcoming Toyota Land Cruiser and the Lexus LX Special Editions have been leaked online ahead of their world debut. Both the vehicles are meant to be launched in the UAE markets and get a number of design-based tweaks on the outside. However, both the Land Cruiser Grand Touring and Lexus LX Black Edition S remain mechanically unchanged from the standard models currently on sale in the UAE market.
As the cars remain unchanged mechanically, the Toyota Land Cruiser comes powered by a number of engine options to choose from – a 4.0-litre V6 petrol engine producing 271 hp and 385 NM of torque, a 4.6-litre V8 petrol motor with 304 hp and 440 NM of torque and a range-topping 362 hp and 530 NM of peak torque producing 5.7-litre V8 petrol unit. While the first two engines are mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox, the top of the line motor is paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. All variants get all-wheel drive as standard. Talking about the Lexus LX special edition shares its 5.7-litre V8 engine with the Land Cruiser with same performance specifications.
According to the leaked images, the special edition of the Toyota Land Cruiser SUV is based on the GXR variant and features a new grille section with a chrome finish, a tweaked front-bumper design with chrome garnish around the fog lamps and blacked-out headlamps along with the 18-inch alloy wheels, rear bumper and roof spoiler borrowed from the Land Cruiser GXR. However, the sportier version of the already sporty-looking LX Superior, the Lexus LX Black Edition S gets spindle-like grille design along with features such as an all-black finish, along with blacked-out headlamps, tail-lamps and fog-lamp cluster.
Since both the premium vehicles are meant for the UAE markets, neither of these special editions is expected to come to India. However, Lexus sells the standard LX 450d and LX 570 in India, with both at a price tag of Rs 2.33 crore (ex-showroom, India) and Toyota sells the Land Cruiser LC200 powered by 4.5-litre diesel engine that makes 265hp and 650Nm of torque, retailing at 1.41 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi). Apart from the Land Cruiser special edition, Toyota seems to introduce a new 2019 Land Cruiser GXR trim level on the way too called Grand Touring. Though, not much is known about this new trim or if it will it will be base trim, full option, or mid-range.
The official launch dates for the Toyota Land Cruiser and the Lexus LX Special Editions have not been announced yet, but both the cars are likely to go on sale in the UAE markets in few months from now. While Lexus has recently launched the new-gen ES 300h in India for Rs 59.13 lakh and it brought the LX 570 to India just three months ago. Recently, Toyota has entered into a partnership with Maruti Suzuki to share a few models including the latter’s Baleno hatchback and Vitara Brezza compact SUV in the Indian market and Toyota is expected to bring two new hybrids – the all-new Camry and the C-HR crossover by 2019 in the country.
