The upcoming SUV by Mahindra has been spied a number of times testing in the country and looks quite masculine at the outside with large dimensions, new Mahindra grille with vertical slats and twin-pod projector HID headlamps with DRLs on the top, dual-tone front bumper, flared wheel arches and rides on dual-tone alloy wheels.
Though, the interior of the SUV has not been revealed till now, but according to the spy shots we expect to see dual-tone interiors with brown leather upholstery, a touchscreen infotainment system and a 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel along with a twin-pod instrument cluster featuring a central MID. There is ivory-colored leather with diamond stitching covering the seats and the dashboard, along with some wooden finish. An 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, climate control, cruise control and electrically adjustable seats with memory will also be there as additional features. Though the model on sale internationally gets 7-inch LCD screen in the instrument cluster, hence we might get lucky enough to see the same in the India- bound Y400 as well.
Under the hood, the 2018 Mahindra Y400 is likely to come powered by a 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces 184 bhp of maximum power and 420 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties are likely to be performed by a 7-speed automatic gearbox sourced from Mercedes-Benz and an all-wheel drive system. However, the lower variants might get a manual transmission and rear-wheel drive.
To be manufactured at Mahindra's production facility at Chakan, Maharashtra, the SUV will be based on the current- generation Rexton with some tweaks to the suspension setup, Mahindra grille and badging. Though, the previous generation Rexton was sold by SsangYong in the market in two variants, with prices starting from Rs 24.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). As the Mahindra SUV will be based on the current generation Rexton sold overseas, we can expect it to be priced little higher than the predecessor with prices starting from around Rs 25.5 - 26 lakh in the country.
