The Baleno RS has been a highly anticipated launch in India, ever since Maruti Suzuki showcased it at the 2016 Auto Expo in February. The massively successful Baleno range is thus, going to expand in a few weeks’ time, when the RS version arrives in India. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS is the sportier version of the stock Baleno and will also be offered for sale exclusively through the Indo-Japanese car major’s Nexa dealership outlets.

As the Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS’ Indian launch is imminent, we take a closer look at this sporty premium hatchback model:

    Engine

The most important difference between the standard Baleno and the Baleno RS is the engine. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS will boast of being powered by Suzuki’s newly developed 1.0 liter BoosterJet petrol motor. The compact and powerful BoosterJet three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine is already available in the global markets, while in India it will debut under the hood of the Baleno RS. As this engine is more compact and lighter as well, the Baleno RS should be a bit lighter as well as compared to its regular counterpart, which should result in faster acceleration and better fuel efficiency. The 1.0L BoosterJet engine would offer a max power of around 110 hp and a peak torque of 170 Nm and is likely to get paired to a 5 speed manual and an automatic transmission options.

    Styling

The new Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS will have the same exterior design of the standard version, but will have some stylish features to mark it apart from its stock counterpart. It will flaunt an aggressively designed V-shaped front grille, swept back projector headlights along with LED DRLs, fog lamps, “RS” logo at its back, stylish LED tail lights, rear wiper, new alloy wheels and additional chrome garnishes all over will ensure a sportier look for the model.

    Interior

On the inside as well, the Baleno RS will be largely identical to the regular version of the premium hatchback. However, the RS variant is expected to get new seat covers with RS logo, touchscreen integrated infotainment system with a host of connectivity options and steering wheel mounted audio and voice controls and drilled pedals.

    Safety

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS is likely to be high on safety quotient and will get loaded with additional safety equipments. It would get dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and seat belt pretensioner as standard features. There will also be Effective Control Technology to absorb and disperse crash energy, reverse camera with parking sensors, rear defogger, automatic headlamps and all 4 disc brakes.

    Pricing & Rivals

The more powerful engine, additional premium features and added safety equipments will make the Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS more expensive than the regular Baleno. It is expected that the company will price in the range of Rs. 8 to 10 lakhs. Post its Indian launch, the Baleno RS will locks horns with other hot hatchbacks in the country such as the Fiat Abarth Punto and the Volkswagen Polo GT.
