Maruti Suzuki had earlier confirmed about the 6th August launch of the 2018 Ciaz facelift and now according to the reports the automaker will launch the updates version of Ciaz in the second half of August. Though the official launch date has not been confirmed yet but the reason behind the delay is said to be because of a rival company having an event during the same time period. However, the delay in the launch is somehow said to be a blessing in disguise for the automaker in order to clear the existing Ciaz stock at the Nexa dealerships. Currently, Maruti Suzuki is offering heavy discount s ranging from Rs 75,000 to as high as Rs 1.3 lakh (depending on inventory) on the outgoing model.
Talking about the updates, the upcoming Ciaz facelift has already been spied a number of times revealing a number of design and feature details about the sedan. In terms of updates, the 2018 Ciaz facelift is expected to come with new-look fascia with a wider grille, and a refreshed bumper and hood. Also, the sedan looks much more rounded from the front compared to the angular look of the outgoing model. LED headlamps and tail-lamp inserts, along with daytime running lights and new-look alloy wheels and a grille that gets styling bits similar to the all-new Ertiga MPV currently sold in Indonesia will be the other highlights of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz facelift.
Inside the cabin, the updated Ciaz will get a lighter shade of faux-wood and a slight tweak in the overall interior shade. However, there will not be any change in the design of dashboard layout or the steering wheel but the automaker will definitely add a new instrument cluster with a new multi-info display inspired from what the existing Baleno is offered with.
The biggest change on the facelifted Ciaz will be the engine. The Ciaz facelift will come powered by the new 1.5L petrol engine which replaces the current 1.4L petrol engine (K15B). Though, the performance detail is not known but it is likely to produce around 100 hp and 144 Nm of peak torque. The motor is expected to come mated to a 6-Speed manual transmission along with the option of 6-Speed automatic gearbox. However, the diesel variants will continue to get the 1.3L engine with 88 hp of power and 200 Nm of peak torque mated to a 5-Speed manual gearbox. Also, the diesel variants will get Maruti's mild hybrid SHVS technology as well.
The SHVS system comes with start-stop technology. It uses an integrated starter generator (ISG) that functions as a battery charger during braking and also acts as the starter motor when the start-stop technology is in use. Also, the SHVS-equipped cars get an electric boost via the Engine Power Assist (EPA) system, where the ISG supplements the engine’s power during acceleration. This system will continue to be offered on the unchanged 1.3-litre diesel engine powering the refreshed Ciaz.
Like other Maruti Suzuki cars, the Ciaz will also be sold through the NEXA dealerships across the country with its flagship Blue color on offer. The outgoing model of Ciaz prices start from Rs 7.83 lakh and go up to Rs 11.51 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). When launched, the facelifted Maruti Suzuki Ciaz will take against the likes of the Toyota Yaris, Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Volkswagen Vento and Skoda Rapid.
