Maruti Suzuki Introduce WagonR with Optional Swivel Seat | V3Cars

This initiative is intended to make mobility features more accessible in the market and reflects the company’s focus on addressing the needs of a broader set of users. The swivel seat makes getting in and out of the vehicle easier and more comfortable for passengers with limited mobility. By offering this feature in one of most popular hatchbacks, Maruti is trying to mainstream accessibility for everyone rather than keeping it limited to niche or high-end vehicle segments.

Maruti is currently offering the WagonR with a fitted swivel seat kit in 200 Maruti Arena dealerships across 11 cities. Meanwhile, the carmaker plans to expand the availability to more cities in the coming months based on customer response. Customers can also order the swivel seat as a retrofit kit at dealerships, either while purchasing a new WagonR for installation in existing compatible models.

Key Features of the WagonR swivel seat kit include:

• Easy ingress and egress
• Easily installable without replacing the existing seat
• Quick fitment process of approx. one hour
• 3-year warranty against manufacturing defects
• Installation does not require any modification 

Commenting on the launch, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said: 

“The swivel seat would make everyday travel more convenient and dignified for senior citizens and persons with disabilities. He added that the initiative reflects the company’s vision of inclusive mobility and its focus on empowering customers with greater independence and confidence.”

Maruti have partnered with a Bengaluru-based startup TrueAssist Technology Private Limited for the development and deployment of the swivel seat under its startup incubation programme with NSRCEL at IIM Bangalore.

Naina Padaki, Founder of TRUEAssist Technology Private Limited, said: 

“The collaboration would help bring assistive mobility solutions into the mainstream. She highlighted the close collaboration with Maruti Suzuki’s R&D teams and said integrating the innovation into a mass-market model would allow it to reach more families across India.”

The carmaker have also stated the WagonR swivel seat has undergone safety testing at the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) and complies with all required safety standards.
