Maruti Suzuki has showcased the Jimny sub-4m SUV at the Auto Expo 2020. The carmaker has not revealed its plans to launch the model in India at the moment. The Gypsy SUV that was on sale in India previously is actually the second-gen Jimny, and the car on display at the Auto Expo 2020 is the fourth generation of the model. At the time of its global reveal in 2018, Suzuki clarified that the new model will be sold ‘throughout the world.’ So, chances of the fourth-gen Jimny coming to India are bright, however, Maruti Suzuki has not confirmed a timeline yet.
As far as its looks are concerned, the fourth-gen Jimny gets an edgy design, more on the lines of the Gypsy than its immediate predecessor, the third-gen Jimny. Some of the key features of the fourth-gen Jimny are LED projector headlamps, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and android Auto, auto climate control, auto door locks, passive keyless entry with push-button engine start-stop, six airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, ESP (electronic stability program) and TC (traction control), autonomous emergency braking and lane departure warning.
Since Jimny is meant primarily to go off the road, it gets features like hill launch assist, hill descent control, brake LSD (limited-slip differential) and shift-on-fly part-time 4WD (four-wheel-drive) with low range transfer gear.
Globally, the Jimny is powered by the 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine that also does duty on the Ciaz and Ertiga in India. If launched in India, the Jimny is expected to be priced above the Rs 8 lakh mark.
