Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R Flex Fuel Prototype With BS6 Phase-II Compliance Showcased | V3Cars

Maruti Suzuki showcased the Wagon-R Flex Fuel in Delhi as India’s first mass-segment flex fuel-complaint car. The Wagon-R Flex Fuel is also compliant with upcoming BS6 Phase-II emission norms.

Wagon-R Flex Fuel

The Wagon-R Flex Fuel prototype was engineered in India by Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) with inputs from Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan. The Wagon-R Flex Fuel prototype can run on ethanol-blended petrol ranging from 20%(E20) to 85%(E85).

Maruti Suzuki made considerable changes to the engine of the Wagon-R to make it compliant with ethanol-blended petrol. They also managed to make the engine compliant with upcoming BS6 Phase-II emission norms. To make the engine compatible with ethanol fuel, new fuel system technologies like heated fuel rail for cold start and ethanol percentage detection sensor were added. Furthermore, components like the engine management system and upgraded fuel injectors, among others, were also added.

This is Maruti Suzuki’s first ethanol-complaint vehicle. Maruti Suzuki plan to do extensive testing in Indian conditions before launching the Wagon-R Flex Fuel in the Indian market.

Maruti Suzuki are also working on varied technologies, including electric, hybrid electric, CNG, bio-gas, ethanol, flex fuel, etc. Furthermore, Maruti Suzuki have also announced their plans to make their entire product range compatible with E20 fuel by March 2023.
