In this May 2023 car sales analysis article, we’ll look at the YoY and MoM change in sales figures of all B1-segment hatchbacks in India. We’ll also include our observations based on the sales data and possible reasons behind a massive increase or drop in sales where applicable. Lastly, the table with monthly sales of all B1-segment hatchbacks for the last 6 months will give you an idea about the 6-month sales trend.
B1-Segment Hatchback May 2023 Car Sales - YoY Change
- The Tata Tiago was the top YoY gainer in May 2023, with a growth of 78.32%
- The Swift was the second gainer after the Tiago, with a 23% YoY rise in dispatches over May 2022
- Speaking of the losers in YoY comparison, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios was the top loser with a 30.13% loss in May 2023 compared to May 2022
- Maruti’s cars were best and least selling cars in the category, with Swift as the former with nearly 17,300 units and with Ignis as the latter with just over 4,500 units sold in the month of May in 2023

B1-Segment Hatchback May 2023 Car Sales - MoM Change
- Maruti Nexa Ignis was the only gainer in the category in terms of MoM comparison, with a 11% increase over April
- WagonR was the worst performing car in the segment in MoM comparison with 22% drop
- WagonR was followed by Swift with 7.50% MoM drop and Grand i10 Nios with 6.64% in May MoM comparison
