Mitsubishi Electric is popular around the globe for manufacturing great home appliances including vacuum cleaners and refrigerators. Well, as the name suggests, Mitsubishi Electric is one of the core parts of the Mitsubishi Group of companies to which, Mitsubishi Motors also belonged before. Mitsubishi Motors is known for making quality SUVs and was the sixth largest automaker in Japan. However, Mitsubishi Motors is no longer a part of the Mitsubishi group, as it is a part of the new Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance.  Anyways, we are not talking about a vehicle that Mitsubishi Motors build, but a car which has come from Mitsubishi Electric. It is actually a concept car and it is future auto industry ready being braced with automated technology.

Named as the Emirai 4, this fully electric autonomous concept model from Mitsubishi Electric, Mitsubishi’s specialist technology division, will be showcasing the company’s next generation human machine interface (HMI) technology at the 2017 Tokyo motor show, which will take place later this month.

The HMI technology will be integrated into a slew of future production car models from Mitsubishi. This onboard advanced artificial intelligence technology will let the passengers to interact with it and receive information via augmented reality.

The fully autonomous Emirai 4 concept will be responsible for demonstrating how the HMI technology works and will be making a big difference in the future auto industry. Emirai 4 concept utilizes a heads-up display with augmented reality which uses a high accuracy locator combined with high accuracy 3D mapping and positioning technology. The system uses a sliding knob that one can easily use without getting distracted while driving, and LCD panels which show 3D pictures with 360-degree view of the surrounding of the vehicle to ensure safe driving. There will superimposed computer generated images on the vehicle’s windscreen to help drivers by marking the road to make important things like road signs and lane dividers more prominent.

The concept car also comes with lights on its doors which alert the passing cars and the exiting passengers. The Emirai 4 concept is highly futuristic and compact, but at the same time it also looks sort of conventional with its styling which is kind of very old Bentley models.

Meanwhile, Mitsubishi Electric also has a experimental project involving the driver monitoring system that can adjust climate control settings in order to decrease driver’s fatigue. This system will also automatically increase the autonomous control of the vehicle in order to ensure safe driving, if the system detects that the driver’s concentration is on the low.

Mitsubishi Electric is contemplating to unveil these safety systems to the broader auto market. This tech that is being developed will not be automatically adopted by Mitsubishi Motors, as it is not an integral part of the Mitsubishi group anymore, but eventually might be adopting it alongside other automotive companies.

According to Mitsubishi, the Emirai 4 concept will be showcasing the next-generation driving assistant technology. This technology should help lower the frequency of the rampant traffic accidents and hence, overall improve the driving experience.
