Audi has launched the new Q5L at the Beijing Motor Show for the Chinese market. The long version of the ongoing SUV has been aimed specifically at the Chinese customers, having a length of 4.77 meters (15.6 ft) along with offering plenty of space for five people and also for a lot of luggage.
The new Q5L is the first SUV from the German automaker in a long version. In comparison to its original base, the wheelbase and exterior length have each increased by 88 millimeters (3.5 in), which benefits the passengers in the rear seat, who gain an additional 110 millimeters (4.3 in) of leg room. Because of the position of the rear seat system, the space and volume of the luggage compartment along with the boot capacity is still unchanged at 550 to 1,550 liters with them folded down. Audi has decided to come up with the long-wheelbase Q5 in order to suffice to China’s unique demand for SUV models that provide more space for rear passengers.
Buyers have the option to choose between the five equipment lines and two versions of the 2.0 TFSI. The customers in the Chinese market can choose from the Vogue, Lifestyle, Design, Sport and Sport plus equipment lines, relying on the engine in the SUV. The equipment lines differ in many exterior as well as interior details. The base model of the Q5 L, Vogue, gets a convenient three-zone deluxe automatic air conditioning system along with the Audi smartphone interface on dashboard. Unfolding with the Lifestyle equipment line, the high-end operating system MMI navigation plus and the fully digital Audi virtual cockpit have been added. In the Design, Sport and Sport plus lines, the Bang & Olufsen Sound System with 3D sound have also been included.
For the safety measures, the Audi pre sense basic and Audi pre sense city safety systems come standard in all equipment lines along with assistance packages for the city and for suburban streets. Except the Vogue equipment line, LED headlights are offered as an option with the highly convenient Matrix LED technology in all the lines. The panoramic glass roof has also been kept standard.
The power to the new Audi Q5L by the German automotive manufacturer is provided by a turbocharged 2.0-litre, four-cylinder TFSI engine. The powertrain is available with 140 kW (190 hp) or with 185 kW (252 hp) and accelerates the SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.6 and 6.7 seconds, respectively. There is a standard seven-speed S tronic mated to transfer the power to the quattro with ultra-technology. With the help of the Audi drive select, the driver can choose different driving profiles between dynamic, comfort, efficiency, individual and auto. The wheel formats in all the lines range from 18 to 20 inches in diameter.
Audi will be producing the new Q5L in Changchun, China, which is a part of the FAW-VW joint venture of the Volkswagen Group, the parent company of Audi.
