Celebrated American SUV maker, Jeep officially took the wraps off the highly anticipated all new Jeep Wrangler (JL Series) at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show. Jeep had confirmed that the new Wrangler will be offered for sale in some of the global car markets within 2018. The all new fourth-generation Jeep Wrangler has been recently caught testing in India for the very first time.
Jeep had earlier said that the new Wrangler will be going through global test miles in countries like Brazil, China, India, Italy and Australia. Thus, the 2018 Wrangler testing on the Indian roads is not something that we hadn’t expected. The new-gen Wrangler is expected to launch in the car market of India sometime in late 2018.
When exterior design changes are concerned, the all new Jeep Wrangler gets subtle yet good cosmetic changes to look more contemporary, while not giving up its legendary military inspired traditional rugged SUV stance even a bit. The iconic SUV flaunts the patent aggressive 7 slatted front grill flanked by large round LED headlights along with stylish new LED Daytime Running Lamps which are housed on revised sleeker front fenders. At the rear end the all new Wrangler flaunts a wide windscreen, and square shaped tail lights. The tailgate mounted spare wheel as well as the revised rear bumper make the iconic SUV offer a wide visual appeal at the back.
However, the bigger and impressive changes are on the inside. The cabin has been hugely updated and turned into a modern cockpit, although the basic layout is reminiscent of the preceding model. It has a vastly modern cockpit now with a stylish and neat appeal. The new-gen Wrangler sports a large 8.4 inch touchscreen infotainment system which dominates the central console and has circular aircon vents on both the sides. There are controls for all the techs on the SUV located below the touchscreen display. The dual pod setup of the instrument cluster has been retained on the new model, but it flaunts a 7 inch display offering all the important info like media playback, digital speed readout and tyre pressure info.
In the global markets, the new generation Jeep Wrangler comes with three engine choices of 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol mill, 3.6 litre V6 naturally aspirated petrol unit and a 3.0 litre V6 diesel motor. In the Australian market however, Jeep will be replacing the existing 2.8 litre diesel motor of the Wrangler that is also available in India, with a 2.2 litre diesel unit. For the India-spec model of the new Wrangler, Jeep’s plans about the engine range are yet unknown. However, it is expected that the new Wrangler will come to India only with the new 8 speed automatic transmission gearbox. This new transmission will replace the existing 5 speed automatic gearbox.
In India, the all new 2018 Jeep Wrangler is expected to be priced in the same range as the outgoing model, as it will continue to be a fully imported model. The ongoing Jeep Wrangler Unlimited has a starting price range of Rs. 67 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
