Japanese auto major Honda has recently launched the new generation model of its popular CR-V SUV in the international markets. The new-gen CR-V has come with two major first time features, the first being the 7-seat configuration and the second, a hybrid powertrain. The all new Honda CR-V has already started selling in the Japanese car market, while it will go on sale in the European markets from 20th October, 2018. However, the hybrid version of the premium SUV will only be available in the global markets in early 2019.
In the international markets, the new generation Honda CR-V SUV is being offered in a petrol version with motor performance of 127 kW and 142 kW options. The diesel version of the SUV has been completely dropped, while the performance figures of the hybrid version of the SUV have not been disclosed yet by the Japanese auto giant.
However, it is a different case for the Indian car market. The all new CR-V is expected to be offered in its first time diesel avatar in India along with the petrol version, while the first-time 7-seat version is also coming. On the other hand, there is yet no news about the new-gen CR-V hybrid version’s arrival in the Indian market.
Talking about the Honda CR-V hybrid’s powertrain, it is only known so far that the model will be boasting of an Intelligent Multi Mode Drive System which will combine the power of a 2.0 litre petrol engine in an Atkinson cycle paired with an electric motor and a separate generator. This advanced hybrid system is also said to have been developed differently in order to offer optimized torque delivery and enhanced fuel economy. This advanced hybrid technology has been borrowed from the Clarity and the Insight models, but is expected to come with some updates.
In the Indian car market, the Honda CR-V has been a popular and revered premium SUV model, but due to the advent of many new rivals in the market, the sales of this highly capable vehicle has been hit. The lack of diesel variant has been also a reason behind the falling sales numbers of the outgoing CR-V in India, as diesel models are still preferred in the premium segments in the country, although petrol is gaining an upper hand given the recent market conditions.
Although the new-gen CR-V will be locally assembled in India, it is not expected to have a price range lower than around Rs. 28 lakhs, as it is a premium SUV and is expected to come with lots of additional goodies this time around. It is also expected to come with greater safety equipments.
Honda Cars India introduced the all new CR-V SUV in India at the 2018 Auto Expo. The new-gen CR-V will be launched in the Indian car market in the month of October, 2018, during this year’s festive season, which is the ideal period to launch new car models in the country.
Hopefully, the new-gen Honda CR-V’s first time diesel version and also the first time third-row of seats will help to boost its sales a great deal in India, as the Indian SUV buyers prefer greater passenger capacity.
