French conglomerate, Groupe Renault which is the parent of Renault, has revealed its mid-term plan for the period of 2017-2022. Groupe Renault’s strategy is called the 'Drive the Future', and it includes four new model launches for the car market of India. Among the upcoming four new models to be launched in India, one of them is a compact MPV model. The French auto maker will be utilizing the extended version of its versatile CMF-A platform to underpin this new planned compact (multi-purpose vehicle) MPV model. The existing hatchback models in India, like the Renault Kwid and the Datsun redi-GO are based on this same CMF-A platform.

While speaking on this development, the Chief Competitive Officer of Groupe Renault, Thierry Bolloré said that the company will be launching a compact MPV model in the car market of India. He added by saying that this new upcoming MOV model from the house of Renault will be a vehicle meant to transport many full-grown adult passengers, but the vehicle will have a subcompact body that will be less than 4 meters in length. However, Bolloré did not divulge any exact launch date or details about the upcoming vehicle.

The French car maker currently has a very limited product portfolio for India. Considering the vast and highly potential market of India, Renault India is focusing on expanding its lineup in order to increase its footprint in the country and grab a sustainable market share. Renault India’s current product lineup comprises of only 3 models, namely the Kwid entry level hatchback, the Lodgy MPV, and the Duster SUV. Renault will soon be expanding its product portfolio the Indian car market to 4 models by launching the Captur premium compact SUV.

For the time being, the Renault Lodgy is the only MPV from the company in this country. However, the Lodgy has not been able to get record amount of sales in the car market of India, although it is a stylish, well appointed and capable MPV model. On the other hand, the Kwid hatchback is a huge success in the country, while the Duster SUV is also a great hit, and the new generation Duster is also being planned to be launched in India. The new-gen Duster should be able to boost sales and fight with its new rivals better in the country.

Renault India is planning to bring in its new MPV, as the company thinks that the demands for personal transportation will certainly increase in India in a huge way.

When the mid-term strategy of the French company is concerned, out of the four models in the pipeline for India, the first will be the Renault Captur. While we don’t know about the order of the upcoming models, the second model is confirmed to be a sub-4 meter compact MPV. The rest of the two models are likely to be a compact SUV and an all-electric version of the Kwid. In India, the upcoming new Renault subcompact MPV will be pitched against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.
