Skoda’s new SUV models are undoubtedly handsome and appealing, but the Czech car maker is just about to enter the hot coupe-styled SUV market with its new Kodiaq GT.
The much talked about new Skoda Kodiaq GT model has been recently revealed through leaked details which has been splashed on the internet. The leaked details revealed the new upcoming Kodiat GT prior to its official unveiling in China, which is slated to take place at the Chengdu Motor Show next month. The coupe-styled version of Skoda Kodiaq full-sized flagship SUV will be following the path of the several premium coupe-SUV models in the international market. German luxury auto major BMW kick-started this trend with the X6 and then the X4, while the other two German luxury auto giants – Audi and Mercedes have of course joined the popular race with the Audi Q8 and the Mercedes-Benz GLC and GLE Coupe models. Nevertheless, while the Skoda Kodiaq GT will be fighting with these German luxury models, it will be priced significantly lower than its strong rivals.
The new Skoda Kodiaq GT is gets quite a few exterior styling updates to mark itself apart from the standard Kodiaq lineup. Apart from the sloping roofline, the Kodiaq GT flaunts new bumpers, wider rear wheel arches, new tail light arrangement, twin exhaust tips and also a small spoiler to add to the attractive coupe looks.
Under the hood, the Kodiaq GT will get powered by Volkswagen Group's well-known 2.0 litre 4 cylinder petrol engine, which will be offered in two states of tune – one offering 186 bhp of power and the other 220 bhp. All the variants of the Kodiaq GT will be getting equipped with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission gearbox. The Kodiaq GT coupe-SUV will also be offered in the market in two-wheel and all-4 wheels drive system options.
On the whole, the new upcoming Skoda Kodiaq GT is an exciting model with added style and sporty quotient. However, the sad part is that the Kodiaq GT is going to be a China exclusive model and it is not meant to be a global model. The new coupe-SUV is being developed by the SAIC-Volkswagen joint venture in Shanghai, and is expected to have a starting price tag of CNY220,000, meaning it will be priced dearer than the standard Kodiaq. However, the Kodiaq GT will still be much cheaper than its luxurious rivals.
