German luxury auto major Mercedes-Benz is busy working on several models, which will be launched within the next two year’s time. One of these upcoming vehicles from the house of the Stuttgart based auto major is the next generation Mercedes-Benz CLA. The all new model is getting all braced up to replace the current model of the popular CLA and it is scheduled to be unveiled sometime in 2019.
The 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLA will be the second-gen model and will be sharing the platform with the upcoming all new A-Class hatchback model and the upcoming A-Class sedan. So far the details regarding the CLA have been sketchy and speculative, but recently more concrete details on the all new CLA have immerged. The upcoming CLA will be flaunting sleeker visual appeal with the help of sleeker styling elements such as thinner headlights and sharper and angular tail lights design.
The new Mercedes-Benz CLA is built on the company’s New Generation Compact Cars (NGCC) structure which it shares with the next generation A-class models as mentioned above. The new CLA will grow in size resulting in a roomier cabin. The liftback model is also expected to spawn a Shooting Brake or estate model at a later date.
The increased dimensions of the next-gen CLA will make it similarly sized to that of the upcoming A-class sedan that is set to launch before the new CLA towards the end of this year. A Mercedes spokesperson revealed to the media that the CLA has a better sporty appeal than before; while its great handling would make sure it attracts various buyers.
The spokesperson said that the success of the CLS and the E-class models prove that their handling ensured better success. He also said that these larger models actually have a kinship with the CLA and A-class sedan, but fitted various segments despite their similarities in size and design language.
The all new Mercedes-Benz CLA will also get a number of added new features and techs on the inside. The German company will endow a new touchscreen infotainment system empowered by the sixth-generation Mercedes Command system. The system will integrate the screen more seamlessly on the dashboard. There will also be a digital instrument cluster.
Under the hood, the next-gen CLA will be sharing the engine range from the upcoming next-gen A-Class. The vehicle will get turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol and diesel engine options like the ongoing model. The motors will offer around 120bhp to 230bhp of peak power, while the top of the range AMG CLA 45 is likely to offer a hammering power output of over 400bhp.
The new CLA might also share the hybrid powertrain with the next-gen A-class. The hybrid drivetrain will include a 48-volt electric powertrain for a mild-hybrid functionality that will be improving the torque of the vehicle during full throttle.
Mercedes- Benz India offers the CLA with petrol and diesel options, and also offers the top-end AMG CLA 45 for sale. The next-gen CLA will surely launch in India in due course of time.
