It is already known that Japanese auto major, Nissan is working hard to boost its sales and improve its presence in the vast car market of India. Apart from working on a two-brand strategy and improving its after sales services in India, Nissan is also planning an aggressive new model launch strategy. The Japanese company is planning to launch a slew of new models under both the Nissan and the low-cost Datsun brand names in India. Among the many expected upcoming launches from Nissan, the most awaited one is the Kicks compact SUV model. The Nissan Kicks have been speculated to be arriving in the Indian market for quite some time now, while very recently it was reported that the SUV is preparing to launch here in January 2019. And now, the Nissan Kicks has been spotted testing in India for the very first time.
The Nissan Kicks compact SUV has been spied testing on the Indian roads for the first time with heavy camouflages in place. The India-spec Kicks will be different from its global counterpart, as it will be thoroughly tweaked to suite the Indian market requirements and preferences. The upcoming India-spec Nissan Kicks is being developed at the company’s new Design Centre and will be rolled out from Nissan and Renault’s jointly owned Chennai plant.
The spy pictures of the Nissan Kicks’ test prototype model in India show only the hind parts and the side profile partially. Moreover, the very heavy veils totally keep the SUV’s design out of view. Nevertheless, it can be ascertained that the new upcoming Japanese SUV model will be coming with aggressive contemporary styling to attract buyers. The overall silhouette of the test mule reveals that it will be highly stylized with bold design characteristics. The India-spec Kicks is likely to get some new exterior styling elements, while the test mule was flaunting multi-spoke alloy wheels that are similarly styled as the global counterpart.
Nissan has also confirmed that as per the Indian preferences, the India-spec Kicks will get dimensional changes as well to offer a more specious cabin. It will also offer an array of connectivity options as per the Indian market trend, while the interior design and layout are also going to slightly tweaked.
In terms of under the hood mechanical details, the Nissan Kicks SUV will come in both petrol and diesel versions in India and the powertrains are likely to be shared with the Nissan Terrano. Hence, the Kicks petrol is likely to get powered by the existing 1.6L mill generating 103 bhp; and the diesel avatar will be packing in the familiar 1.5L motor in two states of tune - 84 bhp and 108 bhp. However, the Kicks is expected to get only the 108 bhp version of the diesel motor. The same 5 speed manual, 6 speed manual and an AMT gearbox options from the Terrano are expected to be offered on the Kicks, although the Kicks might get a CVT automatic gearbox instead of the AMT unit.
The new upcoming Nissan Kicks is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 11 lakhs – Rs. 16 lakhs in India, and it will be rivaling the likes of the Hyundai Creta.
