French car maker Renault is updating its lineup in order to boost its sales in the highly competitive Indian car market, with special focus to its bestsellers. Renault India has just updated its bestselling model Kwid hatchback with a better tech-rich infotainment system and added safety features, and has also updated its popular Duster SUV range.
Renault has endowed the Duster compact SUV with some equipment changes, while also revising the compact SUV's model line-up. The highlight of the updated Renault Duster’s lineup is the introduction a new model trim – the RxS diesel AMT that has been tagged at priced at Rs 12.10 (ex-showroom, Delhi). This new variant has replaced the previous top of the range RxZ AMT model. Moreover, Renault has also slashed down the Duster’s lineup by two variants - the base diesel model is the only standard variant and the mid-range RxL range. The Duster still comes with both front-wheel drive and the all-wheel drive system options, but the AWD choice continues to be available exclusively on the top 110 hp RxZ diesel model trim.
Renault has also introduced a new petrol manual model in the RxS trim level, which replaces the older RxL petrol variant. Previously, the petrol RxS trim variant was available for sale only equipped with a CVT automatic gearbox, but now there’s a manual version too, to choose from.
When it comes to the equipment updates on the 2019 Renault Duster range, the SUV gets Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support for its infotainment system, similar to what the updated Kwid gets. The Duster’s infotainment system also comes with an upgraded touchscreen display. On the down side, the Duster SUV has not been endowed with a driver’s airbag as a standard feature, unlike the new updated Kwid lineup. Nevertheless, the French automaker has offered ABS as part of the standard equipment list on the updated Duster SUV.
When it comes to the visual looks as well as the under the hood mechanical specifications, just like the updated new Kwid again, the updated Duster lineup doesn’t get any changes. Thus, the Renault Duster continues get equipped by the same petrol and diesel powertrains as before. The petrol version of the compact SUV gets equipped with a 1.5 litre petrol engine that is good to generate a max power output of 106 hp. The petrol engine has been paired with a 5 speed manual and an automatic CVT gearbox options. On the other hand, the diesel avatar packs in a 1.5 litre diesel motor, which is offered in two different states of tune – 85 hp and 110 hp. The 85 hp version gets mated to only a 5 speed manual transmission, while the 110hp diesel version comes with a 6 speed manual or AMT gearbox options. The 110 hp also gets an all-wheel drive option as already mentioned.
The updated new 2019 Renault Duster continues its fight against the segment leader Hyundai Creta that has also received an update for the 2019 year model. The Duster also goes against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross crossover.
