Spied: BMW X7 In India
BMW is gearing up well for the launches this year in the Indian market. The automaker has been testing the upcoming X7 in the country ahead of launch. The vehicle has been spied testing in disguise recently on the Indian roads near Chennai. BMW India is launching the range- topping M50d on January 31, 2019 at the India Art Fair in New Delhi. The BMW X7 will be the new flagship model from the brand in India and this is the first time that the SUV has been spied testing in the country.
The X7 will be the first seven- seater SUV from BMW and will sit above the X5 in BMW’s lineup of SUVs. The flagship SUV was unveiled at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2018. The upcoming X7 SUV measures 5,151 mm in length, 1,990 mm in width and 1,805 mm in height. According to the spied images, the BMW X7 comes with twin LED headlights with Laser beam technology, LED tail lights, large signature kidney grille and 22- inch wheels.
At the inside, the 2019 BMW X7 will come with a multi- layered dashboard housing a standard 12.3- inch touchscreen infotainment display and a completely digital instrument panel. Apart from these, the standard kit is expected to include four- zone climate control system, soft- close doors, a three- piece glass sunroof, a park assistant function with a reversing camera and a reclining function for all three rows. The three- row SUV offers seats for seven people as standard with conventional second- row bench seat configuration. However, customers can go for individual middle row seats alternatively, reducing the capacity to six people. When all the seats are in use, 326 litres of load capacity is available, while folding down the backrests of the second- and third- row seats increases this capacity figure to 2,120 litres.
In terms of powertrain, the top- of- the- line M50d is expected to come powered by a 3.0- litre inline six-cylinder quad- turbo diesel engine producing 400 bhp and 760 Nm of peak torque powering all four wheels. The engine will come mated to a standard eight- speed automatic transmission. Internationally, BMW will sell the X7 in four mechanical configurations at launch including the Indian version engine, with 8- speed Steptronic transmission and xDrive AWD system as standard. Other engine options that come with this SUV include 3.0- litre six- cylinder petrol which produces 360 bhp, 3.0- litre six- cylinder Diesel engine with 265 bhp and will come in the xDrive30d for the diesel and xDrive40i for the petrol variant. All the variants will come with an eight- speed transmission and with four- wheel drive as standard. The car is also expected to get an off- road package and four other driving modes on offer.
BMW will introduce three other variants, the xDrive 40i, xDrive 50i and xDrive 30d sometime in September 2019. The automaker plans to localize the production of X7 SUV in order to keep the pricing lower. We can expect the BMW X7 price to be around Rs 1.6 crore (ex- showroom). When launched, the 2019 BMW X7 will take against the likes of the Land Rover Discovery and the Mercedes-Benz GLS n the segment.
