Tata Harrier has been in the news since the automaker showcased the H5X concept. The SUV has already been spied testing a number of times on the Indian roads and this time again the 7-seater SUV has been spotted testing at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu ahead of its launch in early 2019. The spied test mule was heavily camouflaged suggesting that the SUV is undergoing tests for high-speed cornering and stability. Though, the heavy camouflage didn’t reveal much information about the upcoming SUV but the tires that are found in the lower variants of Hexa was spotted.
The spotted Tata Harrier was spotted riding on the 16-inch wheels with 235/ R16 tires, which come on the lower-spec trims of the Hexa, though the concept sported segment-leading tires, which would come in top-end variants of the Harrier SUV, similar to what we have seen on the Hyundai Creta, where the top-end variant gets a bigger sized wheel. The spied images show the rear end of the Harrier featuring temporary tail light cluster with a reverse lamp, while the windscreen bears an ‘On Test' sticker and the SUV also gets a roof-mounted spoiler with a stop lamp. The rear might also feature a skid plate, but it is not visible due to the heavy camouflage and by looking at the design of the D-pillar, the spotted model seems to be a seven-seater variant hinting towards the fact that Tata Motors could be testing the prototype version of the seven-seater version of the Tata Harrier.
Under the hood, the seven- seater Tata Harrier will be offered with a 2.0 Litre Diesel engine producing around 140 BHP of power and 350 Nm of torque. It will come mated to a 6-speed Manual Transmission along with a 6-speed AMT sourced from Hyundai, while the Harrier is expected to sport petrol engine at a later stage as well as an electric variant.
Based on the Tata Motors’ Impact Design 2.0 philosophy, in terms of features, the upcoming Tata Harrier is likely to offer Electric Sunroof, Rear AC Vents, LED Projector headlamps with LED DRL, Hands-Free tailgate, Front, and rear armrests, Touch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and Electrically adjustable seats among others. On the other hand, the SUV will also come loaded with a number of safety features such as 6-airbags, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control and Vehicle Stability Management, Hill start and descent assist, Front and Rear parking assist with a rear parking camera, Traction Control, and Brake Assist.
Though, no details have been provided by Tata Motors regarding the pricing of the 2019 Tata Harrier but as it is placed over the Hexa, which ends at around Rs 18 Lakhs, we can expect it to be priced between Rs 13.5 Lakh to Rs 19.5 Lakh, staying true to the features of a premium SUV. When launched, the five-seater version of the Harrier will take against the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Mahindra XUV500, Renault Captur, Jeep Compass and upcoming Nissan Kicks. Apart from the Harrier, Tata Motors’ future lineup includes Tata Harrier SUV, Tata E-Vision Sedan, the Tata Hornbill Micro SUV and the Tata 45X premium hatchback.
