Tata Nexon AMT Details Revealed, To Be Launched Soon

by Monalisa Saha on Wednesday, Apr 18 2018

Indian auto giant Tata Motors has officially revealed the details of the AMT version of the sub-compact SUV Nexon. The compact SUV was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo in February this year and since then the speculations regarding the launch of the Nexon AMT has been making rounds in the country. Also called as 'HyprDrive', though the official launch details of the Nexon AMT have not been announced but reports suggest that the launch can happen anytime soon.

Under the hood, the upcoming Tata Nexon AMT will come powered by the same 1.5-litre diesel engine of the Nexon making 108 BHP of power and 260 Nm of torque, as well as the 1.2-litre petrol engine that generates 108 BHP of maximum power and 170 Nm of peak torque. However, the automaker is yet to reveal the variants in which the AMT tech will be available but like the Nexon manual, the Nexon AMT will also get the three driving modes Eco, City and Sport. These three driving modes change the engine-transmission characteristics in both completely automatic and semi-automatic (Tiptronic) mode of the 6-speed AMT unit.

Other than these, the Nexon AMT will also feature the creep function, which basically makes the car move forward without any accelerator input with the gear stick in ‘D’ mode making it particularly helpful when driving in heavy traffic. Other noticeable features include hill launch assist, to prevent the vehicle from rolling back when going uphill, anti-stall and kick down with fast off, wherein the automatic transmission will shift into lower gear during sudden acceleration for a better launch.

Talking about the design, styling and features, the upcoming Tata Nexon AMT will be identical to the standard Nexon in terms of looks and styling. However, in terms of features the AMT version of the Tata Nexon compact SUV will come loaded with a 6.5-inch touchscreen Harman infotainment system with Android Auto, projector headlamps with DRLs, all four power windows, wearable key, front and rear fog lamps, day/night IRVM, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, tilt adjustable steering, steering-mounted controls, and 16-inch alloy wheels. The safety features include dual front airbags and ABS with EBD as standard available on the Nexon’s top-spec manual variant as well.

The most noticeable change is the new color option that will be available with the new Nexon AMT- a new orange color with a silver roof. The new color option is the same that was showcased at the Auto Expo. However, at the event, the new color was showcased with a black roof instead of silver. However, the regular shades of Moroccan Blue, Glasgow Grey, Seattle Silver, Vermont Red and Calgary White will also be available. The compact SUV will measure 3,995mm in length, 1,730mm in width and 1,600mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,470mm while ground clearance is at 200mm.

In terms of pricing, the automaker is expected to announce the price details at the time of launch itself. The expected price range is around Rs 9.30 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for petrol variant and around Rs 10.30 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for diesel variant which will be around Rs 30,000 more than the top-spec  XZ+ dual-tone variant, which is priced at Rs 9.01 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and Rs 9.89 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for petrol and diesel, respectively. Tata had launched the XZ variant of the Nexon recently in the country and has also been appointed as the official partner of the Indian Premier League and the company might utilize this opportunity to launch the AMT model.  When launched, the Tata Nexon AMT will take against the likes of the Ford EcoSport and the upcoming Mahindra TUV300. Stay tuned to for the launch details of the Tata Nexon AMT in the country.
