The Ignis which is already available in Japan will be launched in January 2017 in the European car markets, and the Indian launch is also likely to be around the same time. Let's take a look that what all to expect from the brand new mini crossover from the house of Maruti Suzuki.

    Design

The Ignis flaunts an upright and boxy design, but has a very attractive styling. It has a boxy rear design, straight character lines and high bonnet. Its face gets an aggressively styled large radiator grille and stylish headlights, while the rear façade features an upright windscreen, dual-tone rear bumper and attractive tail lights. It will boast projector headlamps with LED DRLs, LED tail lamps.

Its crossover features include body cladding all around the vehicle, prominent wheel arches, very short overhangs, 15 or 16-inch alloy wheels and an overall true crossover that stand out in crowd.

    Dimensions

The Maruti Suzuki Ignis is a sub-4-meter compact crossover model which has a length of 3700 mm, width of 1690 mm and height of 1595 mm. The car comes riding on a wheelbase measuring 2435 mm, while offering a pretty good ground clearance of 180 mm.

    Cabin & Features

The distinctively attractive Ignis will flaunt a good looking cabin as well. Although the India-spec model will be bereft of some features that the global Ignis will boast of, the overall quality and styling are expected to be the same. It is likely to get a black & white interior scheme along with contrasting accents. Its features list will be rich which will include a floating type infotainment system, climate control unit system, new steering wheel and switchgear, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, most likely an upgraded 7 inch Suzuki SmartPlay infotainment system, 50:50 split and reclinable rear seats and much more. The Ignis will have all individual features with almost zero parts sharing with other products from the company.

    Mechanical Specs

The European-spec Ignis will pack in a more powerful 1.2 liter DualJet petrol with mild hybrid technology, while the Indian-spec car will come with the standard 1.2-liter mill that also run the Swift and Baleno hatchback models. This engine pumps out 84.3 PS of power and 115 Nm of torque. The India-spec Ignis will also come with the 1.3 liter DDiS190 diesel mill offering 75 PS and 190 Nm. Transmission options are expected to include a 5 speed manual and a 5 speed AMT or a CVT unit. Also, while the European version will come with an AWD option, the Indian counterpart is unlikely to offer the same.

    Price & Rivals

Although not in the same segment, the new upcoming Maruti Suzuki Ignis will be primarily fighting with the Mahindra KUV100. The Ignis will be a premium model and will be selling only through Maruti Suzuki’s premium Nexa dealerships outlets and is expected to be priced at around Rs. 5 lakhs.
