After the launch of the Volvo XC40 Recharge, Volvo India are likely to extend their EV portfolio with the launch of the C40 Recharge in 2023. The C40 Recharge is the coupe version of the XC40 and comes exclusively with the electric drivetrain.

The Volvo C40 is the first Volvo to be designed as a pure electric EV. It sits on Volvo’s CMA platform and shares its electric drivetrain with the XC40 Recharge. Like the XC40 Recharge, we expect Volvo India to launch the C40 Recharge only with the twin-motor drivetrain. It comes with a 78kWh battery pack and 2 electric motors, producing 408PS of power and 660Nm of torque. It offers an estimated range of 451km on a single charge.

On the design front, it’s hard to distinguish the C40 Recharge from the XC40 Recharge. The changes only come into picture when you look at the side and rear profiles. The C40 Recharge gets a sloping roofline, lending it a coupe-esque design. On the inside, the C40 Recharge gets a similar dashboard layout as the XC40 Recharge. It gets an Android-based infotainment system and an all-digital instrument cluster.

Volvo could offer the C40 Recharge via the CKD route to keep prices in check. Volvo India are already locally assembling the XC40 Recharge and it comes at an impressive price tag of Rs. 55.90 lakh. The C40 Recharge will go up against the Kia EV6 whereas Hyundai are also likely to launch the Ioniq 5 electric crossover in 2023.
