What Are The Pros And Cons Of Renault Duster Petrol?
The pros or advantages of Duster petrol 2020 are:
- Most affordable C1 segment SUV - starting price is comparable with the smaller Mahindra XUV300
- Widest and tallest SUV in the C1 segment - it has tremendous road presence and adequate cabin space for 3 adults in the back seat
- Best-in-class boot space of 475 litres
- Everyday drivability is comparable with other 1.5-litre normal petrol engines in the segment
- Aggressively priced base variant (RXE), reasonably-equipped mid variant (RXS) and well-priced top variant (RXZ)
The Renault Duster petrol 2020 has the following shortcomings or problems:
- No automatic transmission, no turbo petrol, no diesel engine and no AWD (all-wheel-drive) option
- An aggressive price tag also means there aren’t enough luxurious features like a powered driver seat, sunroof, air purifier, rear AC vents, telescopic steering, etc.
- Dated exterior and interior design (e.g. flap-type door handles)
- Steering-column-mounted controls feel unnatural to use compared to the commonly available steering-mounted controls
What Is The Price Of The 2020 Renault Duster Petrol?
The Renault Duster is available with only 1 engine option - 1.5-litre normal petrol and in 3 variants - RXE, RXS and RXZ. It costs between Rs. 8.49 lakh and Rs. 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The Renault Duster is the most affordable SUV in the C1 segment and its price is comparable with the smaller Mahindra XUV300.
RENAULT DUSTER | PRICE LIST
RXE | Rs. 8,49,000 |
RXS | Rs. 9,29,000 |
RXZ | Rs. 9,99,000 |
Is The RXE Variant Of 2020 Renault Duster Petrol Worth Buying?
The base RXE variant of the Duster costs Rs. 8.49 lakh. It gets the following notable features:
- Safety kit (ABS, 2 airbags, parking sensors)
- Halogen projector headlamps
- Day/night inside mirror
- Remote central locking
- All power windows
- Tilt steering
- Rear parcel tray
- Body-colour bumpers
- Black door handles and outside mirrors
- LED tail lamps
- Wheel covers
- Internally adjustable outside mirrors
- Roof rails
- Black grille
The base variant only gets the basic features and doesn’t get the following:
- Power mirrors
- Music system
- Front and rear armrests
If you don’t mind getting these features from the aftermarket or you don’t want to spend any more cash, then the RXE variant is worth buying. But we believe a car this price deserves some more creature comforts. Nevertheless, there’s no denying that the Duster RXE variant is a fantastic VFM and the most value for money variant in the Duster 2020 petrol lineup.

Is The RXS Variant Of 2020 Renault Duster Petrol Worth Buying?
The RXS variant of the Renault Duster petrol costs Rs. 9.29 lakh and is Rs. 80,000 more expensive than the RXE variant. For this additional sum, you get the following notable features:
- Rear defogger
- 7-inch touchscreen
- Android Auto and Apple Carplay
- Steering-column mounted controls
- Power mirrors
- Cooled storage
- LED DRLs
- Chrome front grille
- Rear armrest
- Body-colour door handles and outside mirrors
The incremental asking price for these features is on the higher side but it’s not too high either. This variant gets most of the must-have features and a few style features as well. The only features we wish it had are:
- Power-folding outside mirrors
- Auto AC
- Front armrest
- Cruise control
Even without these, the RXS variant is a good buy. If you want better value for money, then RXZ will probably serve you better.

- Auto AC
- Front fog lamps
- Parking camera
- Front armrest
- Rear washer and wiper
- Alloy wheels
- Cruise control
- Height-adjustable driver seat
- Lumbar support for driver seat
- Power-folding mirrors
The RXZ variant justifies the incremental costs over the RXE variant - thanks to big-ticket good-to-have items like cruise control and alloy wheels. The RXZ variant is our top recommendation and the second most VFM variant of the 2020 Duster.

Which Variant Of The 2020 Renault Duster Petrol Offers The Most Value For Money?
The RXE variant of the 2020 Duster petrol is easily the best value-for-money variant in the lineup. However, it doesn’t get some must-have features that you will certainly miss during your ownership. The RXS is a well-equipped option but it’s a little bit on the expensive side. If you value functional features more than style, then the RXS is still a good option. But the RXZ is our top recommendation as it almost justifies the incremental asking price over the RXE base trim with the additional features.
DUSTER VARIANTS | RECOMMENDATION
Variant | VFM Rank | Price (ex-showroom) | Recommendation |
RXE | Rank 1 | Rs. 8,49,000 | Aggressively priced, but lacks some basic equipment |
RXS | Rank 3 | Rs. 9,29,000 | Gets most of the must-have features. Suitable for buyers who don’t want to spend on feel-good features. |
RXZ | Rank 2 | Rs. 9,99,000 | Gets some feel-good features; an upgrade worth considering. |
What Are The Engine Specifications Of The 2020 Renault Duster Petrol?
The Duster no longer has a diesel engine, automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive option, all of which were available earlier. It has only 1 petrol engine which doesn’t get turbo treatment either. The power and torque of this engine are rated at 106PS and 142Nm. It doesn’t get the top end performance like the Creta/Seltos but it has similar city and highway drivability with sufficient torque for everyday usage.
The Duster petrol has an official fuel efficiency figure of 14.26kmpl. It’s pretty much at the bottom of the list, which could be because it doesn’t have a taller 6th gear for relaxed cruising.
