2024 Dacia Spring EV Revealed – Previews Upcoming Renault Kwid EV | V3Cars

Renault’s sister brand Dacia have unveiled the 2024 Spring EV. The new Spring EV is based on a modified version of the platform that underpins the Renault Kwid made in India. Meanwhile, Renault India are likely to launch the Kwid EV by 2025. However, they are yet to reveal its launch timeline.

2024 Dacia Spring EV Borrows Styling From Upcoming Duster

The Dacia Spring EV takes heavy design inspiration from its elder sibling, the Duster. Up front, the Spring EV features a slim, gloss black grille with white elements that connect the horizontal elements of the Y-shaped LED DRLs on either side. The headlamps are positioned lower down on the bumper, like in the Renault Kwid. The charging port resides under Dacia’s DC logo on the grille.

From the side, the similarities between the Spring EV and the Renault Kwid sold here become more evident. Both hatchbacks feature the same profile with pull-type door handles, black wheel arch cladding and black stickers on the lower half of the doors.

At the rear, the Spring EV gets Y-shaped tail lamps that are connected by a gloss black panel on the tailgate. Dacia have retained the muscular rear haunches of Kwid in the Spring EV, which lends the electric hatchback a rugged look.

The interior of the 2024 Spring EV has received a thorough overhaul over the previous version. The all-new dashboard offers a similar layout as the one in the new Duster. The multi-function steering wheel, infotainment system and the HVAC controls are pinched from the larger SUV and the Spring EV even gets mounts on the centre console and dashboard for various accessories like a phone holder.

2024 Dacia Spring EV Safety Features, Powertrain Specs

In terms of safety, the 2024 Dacia Spring offers advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). It offers features like lane keeping assistance, advanced emergency braking and driver attention monitoring. The Euro-spec Spring EV comes with dual airbags and ABS as standard. We expect the India-spec Kwid EV to offer more airbags in the top variants in the interest of safety. Currently, the Kwid EV’s possible rivals in India – the Comet EV and Tiago EV – offer 2 airbags as standard. However, the Tata Punch, which is pricer, offers 6 airbags in its top-spec variants.

As far as powertrain is concerned, the Spring EV remains largely the same as before. It comes with a 26.8kWh battery pack that sends power to a single electric motor mounted at the front axle. The Spring EV produces 45PS or 65PS of power, depending on the variant. Dacia claim a range of 220km on a full charge. The less powerful variants offer 11kW (AC) charging capability while the more powerful version supports 30kW DC charging as standard.

Renault Kwid EV: What We Know So Far

In January 2024, V3Cars had a chat with Renault officials, who confirmed 5 new models as part of the brand’s ‘Renaulution’ growth strategy. Two of these cars will be the Duster C-segment SUV and its 3-row version, which will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Alcazar. The third will be a heavily localised EV. Considering the Kwid EV was showcased before at the 2020 Auto Expo, we believe it could be the first EV Renault plan to launch in India. The Kwid EV will rival the likes of the Tata Tiago EV and MG Comet EV with a price tag of under Rs. 10.0 lakh (ex-showroom).
