The fifth-generation Discovery SUV by Jaguar Land Rover has been launched in India. Although the automaker had revealed the prices for the next-gen SUV in August this year, the vehicle goes on sale now. Available with both petrol and diesel engine options, the prices for the 2017 Land Rover Discovery start at Rs 71.38 lakh (ex-showroom) post GST price. The 2017 Discovery is all-new and has been positioned between the Discovery Sport and Range Rover line-up in the British marques’ stable.
The newly launched fifth generation of Land Rover Discovery is available in five trims- S, SE, HSE, HSE Luxury and First Edition. All the variants are available with both petrol and diesel engine options. Under the hood, it gets the Si6 petrol and TDV6 diesel engines. While the supercharged petrol 3-litre V6 churns out 335 bhp and 450 Nm of peak torque, the six-cylinder diesel motor on the TD6 trim delivers 254 bhp and peak torque of 600 Nm. Transmission duties with the both engines are carried out by 8-speed automatic gearbox.
In terms of looks, the 2017 Land Rover Discovery continues to feature the traditional stepped roofline, providing ample space inside for the passengers. The next gen Land Rover Discovery is available in five- or seven-seat configurations with the first four variants getting the five-seat arrangement as standard; the range-topping First Edition comes with the seven-seat configuration. However, for an additional premium, the seven-seat option can be availed with the rest of the variants as well.
At the inside, the SUV offers a number of premium features such as Intelligent Seat Fold technology, central touchscreen, InControl Touch Pro Services. Moreover, the SUV also gets InControl Touch Pro infotainment system, 14-speaker Meridian digital surround system, four 12V charging points along with the options to customize each trim with add-ons. Apart from these, the 2017 Land Rover Discovery also gets the innovative electric folding and configurable seats for all three rows, which is available on the HSE and top variants. While the SE trim gets powered front row, the HSE and HSE Luxury gets powered front row with the option of electrically adjustable third row seats available which means if you opt for the 'First Edition', all three rows will get electrically configurable seats as standard.
First showcased at the 2014 New York Auto Show, the 2017 Land Rover Discovery is based on the Discovery Vision Concept and this 7-seater family SUV is now in its third generation for the Indian market. The 2017 Land Rover Discovery will be taking on a bunch of vehicles including the Volvo XC90, Audi Q7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS. While the advanced bookings for the 2017 Land Rover Discovery commenced in August this year after the prices were announced for the same, the deliveries will commence for the SUV from now on.
