German luxury automaker Audi has launched the much awaited second-generation of RS 5 coupe in the Indian market. The newly launched coupe is priced at Rs 1.10 Crore (ex-showroom). Already on sale in the international markets before coming to India, the 2018 RS5 Coupe comes with a new engine along with updated interior and exterior styling.
Speaking at the launch, Rahil Ansari, Head- Audi India said “Audi Sport signifies the transition of Audi’s racetrack technology into production-ready performance cars. Born on the track, built for the road - the all new Audi RS 5 Coupé is the gran Turismo among the RS models from Audi Sport. The car’s V6 bi-turbo engine has been developed from the ground up and provides significantly more performance coupled with higher efficiency. The all-new Audi RS5 Coupé combines the performance of a sportscar and the comfort of a sedan which makes it a desirable machine for our customers and enthusiasts who are smart yet adventurous and want to make an incomparable style statement.”
Mechanically, the next-gen RS 5 comes powered by a 2.9 TFSI bi-turbo engine which produces 450 hp of maximum power and delivers 600 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to an 8-speed tiptronic automatic transmission and the power is transmitted evenly to all the four wheels via the quattro permanent all-wheel drive system with self-locking center differential. Both turbochargers of the 2.9 TFSI engine unit supplies a single cylinder bank and are centrally positioned inside the V of the engine. With a top speed of 250kmph, the car is capable of doing the 0-100kmph sprint in just 3.9 seconds. The engine returns the ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 10.80kmpl. apart from this, the newly launched coupe also features the RS sport suspension with sportier setup, Dynamic handling system, Audi Drive Select, Five-link construction at the front and rear axles, Electronic Stabilization Control with three modes and wheel-selective torque control Chassis as standard.
Talking about the design, styling and features, the all-new Audi RS 5 coupe comes with Matrix LED headlights as standard with dynamic rear indicators, as well as three-dimensional LED rear lights, a wide and flat Singleframe front grille with additional air inlets/outlets at the front and rear, RS Sports Exhaust System and 19-inch wheels as standard along with 15mm wider wheel arches as compared to the Audi A5 sedan. Other than these, the second-gen Audi RS 5 coupe is also lighter by 60 kgs as compared to its predecessor, while being 74mm longer, 1mm wider and 15mm more spacious than the previous-gen model. The customers can also avail Audi exclusive black styling package with exterior mirror housing in black with the coupe along with optional matt aluminium and carbon exterior package are also offered as option.
At the inside, the newly launched coupe gets RS-specific elements for greater sportiness in the cabin with features such as 3-spoke flat bottom steering wheel with multifunction plus, 3 zone air conditioning, Panoramic sunroof, Ambient lighting, Door trim with aluminium inlay, electrically adjustable front seats including memory function for the driver’s seat with pneumatic lumbar support and massage function and illuminated RS 5 logo among others. The interior also receives front sports seats offered in alcantara leather upholstery as standard with option of fine nappa leather along with the diamond stitching and embossed RS logo. While the shoulder room has been increased by 26mm for the front seat occupants, the knee room has also been extended by 23mm for the rear seat passengers.
Apart from these, the 2018 Audi RS 5 also offers the Audi Virtual Cockpit with special RS screen with information on tire pressure, torque and g-forces, as well as a shift light which prompts the driver to upshift as well as the touchscreen infotainment system offers MMI navigation plus and MMI touch, including intuitive free-text search and natural language voice control along with Apple and Android smartphones compatibility. The Bang and Olufsen Sound System with 3D sound, 19 loudspeakers and 755 watts of power comes as standard fitment with the newly launched premium car.
The safety features offered with the 2018 coupe include Six Airbags, ABS, EBD, EDL, ASR, ESC with torque vectoring and Park Assist (rear view camera with parking system plus) as standard. The color options in the new RS5 Coupe include Nardo Grey, Metallic Floret Silver, Metallic Glacier White, Metallic Mythos Black, Metallic Sonoma Green, Metallic Navarra Blue, Pearl Effect Daytona Grey and Pearl Effect Misano Red.
The new generation RS5 is the second launch from Audi India this year, joining the new generation Q5 SUV that was launched in January this year. Like all performance models from the German luxury automaker’s line up, the Audi RS5 Coupe also comes to India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU).
