BMW has launched the 6 Series GT has been launched in a new diesel variant in the Indian market. The German luxury automaker had introduced the second generation of the 6 Series Gran Turismo at the 2018 Auto Expo. However, till now the car was available only with petrol engine option. The newly launched 630d Gran Turismo comes in two trim levels - Luxury Line and M Sport priced at Rs 66.50 lakh and Rs. 73.70 lakh (ex-showroom, India) respectively. In addition to the diesel variants, BMW has also introduced the 630i Gran Turismo Luxury Line, which is priced at Rs. 61.80 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
Commenting on the launch, Vikram Pawah, president, BMW Group India, said, “With the launch of the first-ever BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo, we created a new segment in the Indian luxury car market. The success of the first-ever BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo will now be taken forward as we present it in a new diesel variant, broadening the range of choices for our discerning customers.”
Launched as the replacement to the 5 Series GT, the diesel version of the 2018 BMW 6 Series GT comes powered by a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder diesel engine that develops 261 BHP of maximum power and 620 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and has 5 driving modes - Sport, Comfort, Comfort+, Eco Pro and Adaptive. The engine is capable of doing 0 to 100 kmph in just 6.1 seconds while it also comes with a Launch Control feature as standard.
In terms of looks and features, the exterior of the new BMW 6 Sereis GT offers the signature kidney grille finished in chrome for the Luxury Line trim and in gloss black for the M Sport variant along with adaptive LED headlights with LED DRLs, frameless doors and LED tail-lights as standard across both the models, Luxury Line gets 18-inch alloy wheels while the M Sport variant gets 19-inch M light alloy wheels, illuminated M door sill finishers, M Aerodynamics package, M Sport brake calipers finished in Dark Blue and car key with an exclusive M logo.
At the inside, the car comes loaded with ambient lighting, 4-zone climate control AC, BMW Individual Headliner in Anthracite, electrically adjustable front and rear seats, 12.3-inch all-digital instrument display, panoramic sunroof, 10.25-inch touchscreen iDrive infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, 3D Navigation and gesture control, 16-speaker Harmon Kardon Surround Sound system, R/C parking, Rear Seat Entertainment Professional, wireless charging and 360 degree surround view cameras making it look identical to the petrol version. However, the M Sport variant gets comfort seats with lumbar support for driver and front passenger as additional features.
Talking about the safety features, the next-gen BMW 6 Series GT gets an Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) with brake assist and Dynamic Braking lights. The car also gets Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) with Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and Cornering Brake Control (CBC). To tackle the slopes with ease, the 6 series GT also comes with Hill Descent Control (HDC) as standard. Other features include active Park Distance Control, rear, BMW Condition Based Service which is BMW’s Intelligent maintenance system and Tyre Pressure Indicator.
The color options available with the newly launched diesel version of the 6 Series GT include Mineral White, Glacier Silver, Mediterranean Blue and Royal Burgundy Red brilliant effect. On the other hand, the M Sport range is limited to include Carbon Black and Bluestone.
Apart from launching the diesel version of the 6 Series GT, BMW also announced that the current petrol variant of the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo, the 630i will be available in a new Luxury Line trim starting July 2018 onwards. In this new design trim, the car will receive chrome design elements on the exterior along with fine-wood trim inside the cabin.
