British automaker Land Rover has launched the 2018 Land Rover Discovery Sport in India with a host of advanced technology features. The SUV has been launched in the country at a starting price of Rs 42.48 lakh ex-showroom, India. First launched in 2014 as a successor to the Freelander, the Discovery Sport is currently the most affordable SUV in the brand’s lineup.
Speaking at the launch, Rohit Suri, President & Managing Director, Jaguar Land Rover India Ltd. (JLRIL), said,“The Discovery Sport has been enriched for Model Year 2018 to provide a more connected experience to our tech-savvy customers in India. This emphasizes our commitment to offer the very latest in in-car infotainment and connected technologies.”
Talking about the features, the newly launched luxurious sporty SUV gets Wi-Fi Hotspot and Pro Services in addition to the existing InControl Apps feature. The Wi-Fi Hotspot uses a customer sourced SIM to provide in-car access to a 4G hotspot for up to eight devices allowing passengers to simultaneously stay connected for entertainment while a range of additional services have been included under ‘InControl – Pro Services’ to enhance the vehicle’s infotainment capabilities.
Let’s have a look at the key features of ‘InControl – Pro Services’ –
Route Planner App- the App allows one to navigate to the end destination and sync routes with the vehicle’s navigation system. The app can be downloaded from the Apple Store or Google Play Store.
Commute Mode- it is a feature that learns a regular route and displays diversions if there are delays on the existing regular route.
Sharing ETA- with the help of this feature, one can share the updates with certain contacts on expected time of arrival (ETA) via SMS.
Under the hood, the 2018 Land Rover Discovery Sport comes powered by a 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engine available in two versions. While in the Pure, SE and HSE grades, this engine produces 148 bhp of maximum power and 382 Nm of torque, in the HSE Luxury grade, the motor churns out 177 bhp and 430 Nm respectively. The transmission duties are carried out by a 9-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all the four-wheels. However, the automaker has not introduced any petrol engine with the luxury SUV. Also, while the 2017 Land Rover Discovery Sport was available in Pure 5-seat diesel, SE 5-seat diesel, HSE 7-seat diesel, HSE Luxury 5-seat diesel and HSE 7-seat petrol configurations, the 2018 Land Rover Discovery Sport on the other hand is available in Pure 5-seat diesel, SE 7-seat diesel, HSE 7-seat diesel and HSE Luxury 7-seat diesel configurations only.
The Land Rover range in India also includes the Range Rover Evoque- starting at Rs 44.44 lakh, the all-new Discovery- starting at Rs 71.38 lakh, the new Range Rover Velar- starting at Rs 78.83 lakh, Range Rover Sport- starting at Rs 93.82 lakh and Range Rover- starting at Rs 166.42 lakh.
