2018 Refreshed Ford Figo CNG version spied in India
It is a known fact that Ford is preparing to launch the new updated Figo hatchback and the Aspire subcompact sedan models in India in the coming months. Now, it has come to light that Ford is also readying up the CNG version of the upcoming Figo facelift model; at least the latest spy pics indicate that. If the Ford Figo facelift comes in a CNG avatar, it is very likely that the Figo’s sub-4 meter compact sedan twin will also get a CNG version in India.
Very recently, the updated Ford Figo got spotted testing on the Indian roads, flaunting a CNG on its rear windshield. A CNG version of the updated Figo should not be a surprise, as more than 80 new cities have been granted CNG distribution license recently.
CNG car models haven’t been so popular in India, as CNG was available mainly in Delhi and some parts of Maharashtra only. However, now as the CNG gas station network is growing and is likely to expand more in India soon, more car manufacturers are expected to offer CNG versions of their existing petrol powered cars. Currently, only the top two car makers of India - Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai offer factory fitted CNG car models in the country.
When the BSVI emission norms come into effect in 2020, the diesel vehicles are going to see a steep decline and with it the CNG vehicles are expected to witness a rise. CNG powered vehicles are cleaner and high on fuel efficiency and are likely to get focus in 2023 when the Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency (CAFE) norms will come into effect in India.
Ford India is going aggressive with new launches and will be soon launching the updated Figo and Aspire models with a host of changes. Apart from exterior and interior changes and feature updates, both the cars will also get a new 1.2 litre petrol engine from Ford’s Dragon engine family, which was introduced in India on the new Freestyle crossover. The 1.2L Dragon mill offers 96 PS of maximum power and will be replacing the older 1.2L petrol engine that generates 88 PS. Ford is expected to offer both manual and automatic transmission options on the updated Figo and Aspire.
The outgoing version of the Figo twin is offered with a dual-clutch automatic transmission with the larger 1.5L petrol mill. This same powertrain was also offered on the previous EcoSport, and was replaced with the new 1.5L Dragon series petrol mill with a 6 speed torque converter automatic gearbox on the updated EcoSport. It is thought that the current EcoSport’s powertrain might be offered on the new Figo and Aspire facelift models as well, but there’s no confirmation yet.
On the other hand, the diesel version of the Figo and Aspire facelift would be carrying forward the same 1.5L diesel motor of the outgoing models. The diesel version will get equipped with a 5 speed manual transmission gearbox.
The updated Ford Figo and Aspire modeks will get a new front grille and revised front and rear bumpers, while a handful of new added features are expected too. The cabins would get styling cues from the new Freestyle to offer an overall fresh appeal. The updated 2018 Ford Figo and Aspire models are likely to hot the Indian market before the upcoming festive season.
