2019 Skoda Superb facelift leaked prior to official unveiling at Geneva

by Monalisa Saha on Tuesday, Jan 29 2019

It is a known fact that the Skoda Superb is getting ready to get an update, and the refreshed model is slated to make its world debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show that will be held next month. Prior to the official unveiling at Geneva, the 2019 updated Skoda Superb premium sedan has been caught sans any camouflage, offering a look at the car’s updates.

Skoda Superb’s third generation model launched in the global markets back in 2015, so the upcoming refresh will be the car’s mid-cycle facelift. Going by the latest set of spy shots, it seems like the spied car is the China-spec model. The refresh seems to be of evolutionary in nature rather than radical updates that were seen on the refreshed Octavia.

In terms of exterior styling changes, the spy images show that the 2019 Skoda Superb facelift flaunts a thick chrome strip above its signature butterfly front grille. The restyled headlight enclosures are wider and sleeker, while housing new lighting elements as well. The sedan also gets a newly designed front bumper, a new wider air dam that stretches across the width of the front fascia, and wider LED fog light housings.

The side profile of the sedan remains mostly identical, and only new split chrome finished logos can be seen on the fenders as well as on the doors. The car might finally come with a set of newly design alloy wheels at the time of unveiling.

The rear design of the upcoming updated Superb has been also given a visual refresh. This comprises of wide Skoda letterings similar to what can be found on the Scala. The tail lights come with new graphics, while a thin chrome strip runs across the width of the rear facade, cutting through the tail lights, which offers wider and more stylish visual appeal at the back. The car also gets a restyled rear bumper along with new grey inserts.

The cabin of the upcoming 2019 Skoda Superb has not been spied yet; neither are there any concrete details regarding the changes on the inside. Nevertheless, we can expect the virtual cockpit instrument cluster as well as a 360 degree camera system to be introduced on the L & K trims of the facelift model of the Superb. The engine range are expected to remain the same for India, but globally, the car would get a new plug-in hybrid version that will pack in a 1.4 liter TSI petrol mill paired with an electric motor. The powertrain will deliver a combined power output of 217 PS and offer a travel range of 70 km.

The ongoing petrol and diesel versions of the Skoda Superb are expected to carry forward the same 180 PS 1.8 petrol engine and the 177 PS 2.0 litre diesel motor without any changes.

The Skoda Superb has had this segment mostly to itself, dominating the Passat with better value and more spce. But a new Camry hybrid is now available and this facelift will keep the Superb from feeling like it has fallen behind.
