2022 Maruti Baleno Production Starts - Launch Expected in Feb | V3Cars

Maruti Suzuki India have commenced the production of the 2022 Baleno, ahead of the launch which we expect to take place in mid-February. The 2022 Baleno will come with multiple changes, in terms of design, features, and build quality. Maruti Suzuki will soon announce the bookings for the 2022 Baleno whereas some dealers are already accepting unofficial bookings.

EXTERIOR & INTERIOR CHANGES

2022 Maruti Suzuki Baleno will get prominent design changes, especially on the front and rear. We expect it to get a broader grille, with slimmer LED headlights flanking it. The bonnet will also find its shut line well above the grille and the front bumper design will change too. On the side, we do not expect any big changes other than the new alloy wheel design. On the rear profile, we expect it to offer wraparound LED taillights with new LED elements. Maruti may also tweak the chrome boot garnishing along with a new bumper design.

On the inside, the 2022 Baleno will offer an updated dashboard layout, with some inspiration from the 2022 S-Cross. So there will be a new, bigger 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with telematics. The updated dashboard will include a new design for the air-con vents and repositioned air-con controls.

FEATURES & SAFETY UPGRADE

On the features front, the 2022 Baleno will offer cruise control, updated instrument cluster, flat-bottom steering wheel, head-up display, a rear-seat armrest and rear AC vents. The carmaker plans to improve the sheet quality by using high-strength steel for its sheet panels and will offer a new top-of-the-line variant with side and curtain airbags.

POWERTRAIN CHANGES

On the powertrain front, we expect Maruti Suzuki to continue with the same 1.2L normal and 1.2L mild-hybrid petrol engines. Both power and torque outputs may remain the same at 83PS and 113Nm and 90PS and 113Nm for the normal and mild-hybrid engines respectively. However, Maruti Suzuki may replace the CVT with an AMT, which might keep the cost of higher variants in check. It is worth mentioning that none of the rivals of the 2022 Baleno get an AMT at the moment to maintain their premium positioning.

With all the new changes, we expect an increase in the prices of the 2022 Baleno. The current Maruti Suzuki Baleno range starts from Rs. 6.03 lakh and goes to Rs. 9.41 lakh (ex-showroom). The 2022 Baleno will compete with the Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz and Honda Jazz.
